Pre-race routine:

Parking was a madhouse and ended up having to pay to park in a garage. Rushed around to try and find my company tent....didn't see it. No one was at the designated meeting spot, so I had no one to leave to my bag with! Saw a CAF tent and asked them if I could leave my bag with them...they were totally awesome! I normally don't bother with having 'stuff,' but my company wanted us to wear the shirts they provided for the race. I didn't want to race with something I hadn't trained in, so I opted to bring it to change into after the race. It worked out well, and my bag was there after the race!
Event warmup:

A few min of light stretches.

Comments:

Hubby and I were supposed to run together. We didn't have great big plans for today since we are running the half tomorrow. I really wanted to tie my most recent best time at 42 min and the super-secret goal was to break 40 min. I've been trying to break 40 min since 2005, and have gotten very close, but always over.

In training, I've tried to sustain the pace needed to break 40 and haven't been able to keep it up, so I had settled in to hoping to tie my pre-mary best time.

Hubbie and I got a little separated and with so many crowds, it was impossible to work my way over to where he was...figured that once the massive crowds passed us, we'd catch up together in the second mile. I also figured I'd have to slow it down in a little bit. When I hit the first mile and saw my split time, I couldn't believe it! I still felt good, so figured I'd keep it up as long as I could.

Stopped for a one minute walk about about 1.5 miles, then got right back into it....took at least 2 more 30 second walk breaks along the way.

At about 2.5 miles, I was still much faster than I thought it was ever possible for me to be, so I thought that maybe I had a chance to beat my previous time . . . as I got closer, I realized I had a good chance to beat 40!

When I heard the announcer talk about the time on the clock, I got very discouraged....figured I didn't make 40 min. It took a few seconds for it to sink in that I started two minutes after the gun, and that I was still in it!! I have no idea how, but that last tenth of a mile was a 10:40 pace
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for hubby at the finish line, while he waited for me at the medals. After about half an hour, we finally ran into one another! whew!

Chowed down at the company tent.

Event comments:

I can't believe there was not a single aid station out there! Otherswise, excellent race!
