Pre-race routine:

Got up, had 1/2 a power bar.
Did my back stretches on the ball, left for Southport, since my stop is closed.

Met Annie and Brent at the Congress like we always do.

Walked over about 8:40 to put stuff in gear check, which, this year, was WAY too early.
Event warmup:

Stand on Congress freezing our a**es off waiting for the "open" runners to be let free...ya, that didn't happen until 10 until 10:00.

Who wants to take a wild guess as to why my times sucked so bad between miles 2 and 4? Once again, the stomach pain returns...shocking, I know.

I felt it coming on after the water stop on State, and tried to rub it away, massage it, like she showed me, but that only seemed to make it REALLY MAD!!

So, between the second and third miles, I had to walk as it felt as though I was shot. I'm not going to lie, I wanted to cry. I saw all of these people around me, running like it was not a big deal, enjoying themselves, and I felt like my heart was breaking. I have been an avid runner since the age of 12, and here there were, people who only do this for fun, or who have just started or who, I'm sorry to say, are in far worse shape than I am, passing me by.

I know I am very lucky for all that I have, and I KNOW my life could be worse, and it's not like this is life threatening, but being the competitive person that I am, and not being able to feel like I am actually competing, really gets me.

The other thing that pops into my head during times like this is what the hell am I paying these people for? I've gotten a CT scan, I've gotten an MRI, can you please figure out what's causing this and let's get some treatment going already?

Feel terrible venting so bad, but it is so discouraging at times.

This was my worst Shamrock time actually starting the race and "trying." I say that since Annie and I ran it together last year, and since I ran with her to be nice, I was not really "trying."

And oh ya, the girl I used to compete against in high school, back when I didn't have any of this non sense and churning out a 5:40-5:50 mile continuously in a 3-5 mile race wasn't a big deal, ya, she placed 2nd overall for females.
What would you do differently?:

Fix the pain, duh!
Post race
Warm down:

Sulk, pick up gear (ran into WHIZZZZ), wait for Annie and Brent and then go get breakfast. I really wanted hot chocolate since I was so cold, but when I asked the guy if they had hot chocoate, his response was, "Ya, I could make it for you, but it's not very good," so orange juice it is!

Went home, went to Jewel, and then came home, crawled back into bed, and fell asleep for over 2 hours! Going to practice drills at pool tonight after Big Brother, so I needed the rest.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

Event comments:

I'm a Cubs fan, so I have to say, "Next year will be my year."
It has to be, I'm going to keep praying that next year I run this race, pain free.
