Run
Comments: Felt strong through mile 7, clocking in at 7 min per mile except the first mile 7:30 (took 20 seconds just to get to the start line). Stopped at my house at mile 4.2 to drop off my pants, adding an additional 25 seconds. My right knee gave me trouble starting at mile 7 (inferolateral pain with every step), slowing down my second half of the race. Mile 10 was at 1:12:20. That was the beginning of a long hill up Forest Ave directly into steady 20mph wind with 30mph gusts. That was demoralizing. Nice steady finish once the turn was made onto Kingman. What would you do differently?: Train better. I just didn't put in the time needed to make it under 1:35 (and eventually 1:30). It is a PR by about a minute despite worse race conditions than last time, but I think I could easily have made more gains in the last year. Post race
Warm down: Enjoyed the post run buffet of juice, water, cookies, bananas. Walked a mile back to the Jeep. What limited your ability to perform faster: Undertraining. Event comments: I'll likely be back for a fourth consecutive Drake 1/2 next year. Last updated: 2008-02-15 12:00 AM
