Swim
Comments: Started off pretty well, tried not to blow myself out. I caught onto the guy in front of me as he was catching the woman in front of him. So she let us both pass and when I was touching his toes with just over 50M left he didn't let me pass, he actually flip turned and pushed off into my chest as I tried to overtake him. So lucky for me there wasn't anyone on the other side of the lane so I swam past him during the next 25. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, it went fine... pool swims are interesting because people don't always put the correct times. Transition 1
Comments: I don't know if you saw it but it was 40-ish degree's outside with some steady wind. So I get out of the water and dry myself off with a towel and take the time to put on my WVU cycling winter jacket and some gloves. As I left T-1 and jumped on my bike (shoes already clipped in) I had troubles getting into my shoes. Left foot was alright but my Right shoe came unclipped as I was trying to get my foot in, fucker! So I pulled over and got my shoes on right and continued on my way. I either need to tighten my cleat so it won't slide out as easy or I need to never pre-clip in my shoes again. What would you do differently?: Not pre-clip in my shoes... oh and warm up the air by like 40 degrees. Bike
Comments: My legs were already trashed from the past 2 days training so I wasn't expecting much here. Along with some Chaffage... this made the bike ride a very unhappy place for me. I didn't enjoy it one bit, it was cold, I was wet and going numb, and I had no juice in my legs... I have never been so ready to get off the bike in my life! What would you do differently?: Not put in as many miles the day before an event. But really the "focus" here is Ironman so I pretty much rode through this event. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty smooth, was still pretty damn cold so the movements were slower. I took the jacket off but kept the gloves. What would you do differently?: Not freeze and maybe stash one of those heating packs in my crotch. Run
Comments: Mile 1: 6:20 Mile 2: 6:24 Mile 3.1: 6:53 I was cold as hell and crushed morally from the bike so I just went out to run a steady and hard pace to warm up and see what happened. Turned out pretty well if I must say so. It was only 4 seconds off my stand alone 5K PR. One of my far reach goals was to break 20min in a 5K off the bike... It's pretty freaking sweet to do that in your first race!!! They had water out of T-2 but I said unless it's hot chocolate I don't want any!! I got some water at the turn around, side note... I hate when they use Styrofome cups!! They are so hard to drink out of, I like the paper ones because you can squeeze them making it easier to drink out of and also not to spill it everywhere!! What would you do differently?: Notta, it went well. Post race
Warm down: Nothing, walked around and got some sweet BBQ for the post race food. What limited your ability to perform faster: The cold weather and training the week before Event comments: I liked it, however I'll check the weather report before I sign up for this race again. It's hit or miss, last year it was high 60's so it was nice and the race starts at 10am in efforts to allow it to warm up... but not this year!!! it was cold all day. Ahhhh, nothing special, just lounged around. Talked to some other college kids from JMU and VA Tech. Drank down 700-ish Cals of Carbo-Pro 2 hours from the start.
Just Stretching. My legs/taint were pretty sore from the past two days so I just didn't do any warm up... well I had to jog to my car a few times to grab things, so that counts for something right?
