Swim
Comments: Really good swim. Slowed my pace to conserve energy for bike and run. Had a good split even with a slower pace. Sighting was 100% better than last year. Only bad thing was bouys were green just like my wave's swim caps! Every so often I thought I was going off course, just to refocus and notice it was another swimmer! I had great energy for the entire swim, unlike last year where I was tired 1/2 way through! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I would like to pick up the pace to about a 1:35/100 pace. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty happy with my T1. Would have liked to see sub-3min times here, but I never practice this, so no worries. Wetsuit came off quickly and I was ready to roll. I had a good start to the bike this year. What would you do differently?: make sure i remember to check for high gear before I leave Transition area before swim. Luckily, I had remembered to do it night before, but I was thinking about it during the swim and second guessing myself. Last year I was in a low gear and it slowed me way down! Bike
Comments: much better ride this year due to no wind. Used new aerobars and Zipp wheels (404front-808rears). Loved them. Nearly flew off my bike on a downhill hitting a pothole. My buddy did the same thing! And there were 4 people standing next to it not warning anyone! The course says it is 24.85, but the actual milage is 25.71 according to my computer. So, i believe I averaged 20mph (unofficially). What would you do differently?: Push it harder next year on the bike on the last 10 miles or so. I will work on more bricks again this year Transition 2
Comments: Quick T2. Saw my buddy John and was surprised. We ran out of T2 together and then I left him a few 10ths later. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I felt fine. Run
Comments: I wanted to walk, but I didnt! I pushed through and just slowed the pace if I needed it. My legs were tired for the first 3 miles, but then they felt good for the rest of the run. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and stretched out. Drank more fluids. What limited your ability to perform faster: My gut. If I am going to drop 15 minutes to place in the top 5 of my group, I will need to become lighter! If i want to win my group and cut 34 minutes, I need to get down to 240lbs! Event comments: My age group is probably the toughest now. 30-39 Clydesdales. I was only 15 min off the top 5 grouping. I was 34 minutes from 1st place. The winner was really nice. He racked his bike next to mine. He was 34 and weighed 210lbs. He did great, but if I were to add 65lbs to him, I could beat him. I am going to really focus on diet and training and place in the top 5 next year along with my buddy John, who had a poor event due to a newborn baby, moving home to MN from Michigan, and starting a new job. Next year we will do great and push each other. Last updated: 2008-02-18 12:00 AM

Trouble sleeping before race, as usual. Slept about 4.5hours. Woke up around 4:15am, but officially woke up at 4:45am. Got picked up by John at 5:15am.
Ate a bagel and drank some fluids.
Pissing in wetsuit like 5 times. Swam 200 yrds. Stretched out my quads and hamstrings.
