Swim
Comments: Went pretty much to plan. Wanted reserve for transition to bike. Seemed ok. What would you do differently?: Gone out a little faster. Still not confident with my swim but I am seeing greatest improvements here. Still having trouble regaining equilibrium after reaching transition. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Very dissapointed with bike split time and speed. Disagree with timing chip on this one. My ride wasn't stellar but I was strong and my HR was good going into T2 and the run. Seemed like I passed a hundred bikers along the route. Comparing it to the TNT time trials in Medina, under similar conditions I felt I was stronger here but it was not reflected in my time or speed. My cateye had me at 41:09 and my Garmin 301 had me at 40:56. Hmmm. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Ride harder? Transition 2
Comments: Tough time getting bike shoes off and running shoes on. Bandages stuck to inside of bike shoes, tore my skin, and slowed down removal. What would you do differently?: Never, ever, ever race in new shoes without putting a few troublefree miles on them. Never believe anyone at the running store who tells you..."if the shoes is sized and fit correctly you should be able to put 'em on and begin running immediately..." I run barefoot and in fact I was able to run without problem with my NB763's, so I tho't no problem...bad idea! Run
Comments: Wanted an 8:00 pace. Under the circumstances I'll take this. Balled up bandages on my blisters made the first 1/1/2 miles rather uncomfortable. However, my HR and the run out of T2 went great and I felt very comfortable throuout the run. Training emphasis seems to be working here. Had plenty in the tank for a final kick over the last 1/4 mile so I went for it to try to salvage my run time. Regardless, other than being poky, and some hiccups, I am fairly confident I am on task and can improve in future races. What would you do differently?: Never run in new shoes the day before a race...! Post race
Warm down: Some stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: Blisters Event comments: Excellent venue. High caliber competition to marvel at and compete with. Excellent organization. Will definitely be back. Last updated: 2005-03-23 12:00 AM

poor night's sleep but felt reasonably rested. Woke at 4:30 and was on the road by 5 am. Had my gear racked by 6:30 although I was in the very last wave that did not start until after 9:30 am. Felt great, Well hydrated with supplements and energy bar 1 1/2 hr before start.
Joint mobility stretches. Jogged 1/2 mile in my running flats to test how my blister bandages would hold-up in transition. Ditto with a 2 mile bike ride.
