Overall Rank = 130/430

Age Group Rank = 20/37
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30. Finished packing, drank coffee and ate 2 packs of oatmeal. Got to race early. Set up in T1 and got marked. Ate banana and raisins. Used bathroom several times and waited.
Swim
  • 06m 33s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m / 100 yards
Comments:

Heavy congestion during parts of the swim. One guy basically swam over me. I think he seeded himself way too slowly. He didn't wait till end of lane to pass, or go around. Lots of wake and splashing. Ingested a fair amount of water that threw my breathing and rhythm off a little.
What would you do differently?:

Should have increased the pace. I was trying to control my adrenalin and not go out too fast, but probably could stepped it up a little.
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Faster than last years T1, but entrance and exit were in slightly different locations.
What would you do differently?:

Should have dried feet and torso better. Socks were wet rest of race. Struggled getting cycling jersey on. Will have to get tri-top.
Bike
  • 30m 58s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Winds were 15-20 mph according to weather man with gusts even higher. The course was not closed and immediately out of T1 myself and another rider were behind an SUV that practically stopped, on a hill no less. I know that the biking split would have been better otherwise, though I'm still pretty satisfied.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I pushed it pretty hard.
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

I stumbled and almost fell in T2 trying to push my watch split button. Recovered fairly quickly. Hopefully did not impede other racers.
What would you do differently?:

Was sitting awkwardly when putting on running shoes. Had slight pains in abdomen afterwards.
Run
  • 25m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

Should have drank more water before leaving T2. Felt okay during most of run. Had to stop and tie shoe during run. Lost momentum (and time). Had a strong 100 yd. kick to finish. Wife and son were cheering me on which is really cool.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe could have pushed a little harder.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cruddy weather and the inherent uncertainties of a pool swim. Better preparation.

Event comments:

I was 1 min. and 5 secs. slower than last year (my very first tri). I was hoping to improve the time but w/ the conditions it would be comparing apples to oranges. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.
