Pre-race routine:

Laid out Transition. I walked the transition area the day before so I would know the path
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 11m 54s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

My best OWS to date. Felt good in the water whole time. There was plenty of room to pass people. The final 90 degree turn home got bogged down with slower swimmers. I got out of the water and was not that winded.
What would you do differently?:

I am not sure. I did and open water swim two days prior and got my confidense. My training in the pool with touch and turn and not kicking helped tremendously.
Transition 1
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

I ran from swim exit to transition and felt really good.Transition was smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Consider putting the race belt on durring the second transition.
Bike
  • 38m 57s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 19.26 mile/hr
Comments:

Slight wind at the back on the way West. Avg. 2021 on the way out. About 18 on the way back in. Drank only once at the turn around.
What would you do differently?:

Practice has been good on Saturday's with the multisport group.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Good transition. poured water over head to cool down. I probably should have done more of this while riding.
Run
  • 28m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Better course than last year. I kept my feet moving but was not in running shape sicne I had hurt my foot in January.
What would you do differently?:

Run practice and intervals.
Post race
Warm down:

Cold towel over head.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I took 12 minutes off of last years time. There is still room for improvement on the run.

Event comments:

The race is becomming the premire first race of the season, as the race director stated he is shooting for. There are plenty of activities and is becomming a family event. I live in Galveston and it is so helpful to see so many friends and people volunteering at the event.
