Pre-race routine:

We got up that morning (and I wasn't too excited about being up that early), got dressed, and left my parents house. We stopped by the store and bought some water.

When we got to the rece site, it was COLD!!! We were really early (which is the way Andy always likes to be), but that was good because later the lines to get packets were CRAZY. We signed in, got our packets, and went to find the blowing heaters.

We sat around after doing a little shopping, and I got a pre-race massage from one of the guys at the expo. Then we decided to head back to the car and leave all of our junk. On the way we ran into Steve and Marcy, and decided where to meet them.

We talked with them a little while and then headed outside to get ready.
Event warmup:

It was cold, but I was in my trusty leg warmers and arm warmers. Andy and I almost missed the start of the race. We snuck in between the fences so we had to cross the starting line and go backwards. Luckily we were there in time.

Comments:

I am so glad I had Andy with me. I could not have done it without him. He carried all my nutrition (sports beans) in a fanny pack. The sad part about that was the fanny pack broke during the first mile, so he had to carry it in his hand the whole time.

We really had fun!!! I didn't have a time goal because this was my first marathon. I knew it was going to be pushing it because of the last few weeks and my lack of training. It was ok though, I just had a goal of crossing the finish line.

I felt really great through mile 14. After mile 14 I was still feeling pretty good, but when I hit the wall at mile 18, I thought I wasn't going to make it. I remember trying to think of ways to twist my ankle (ok, I knew I wouldn't really do that), but it went through my mind. I wasn't going to let anything hinder me from finishing, and I knew Andy wouldn't either. He kept pushing me to go further. He would make me run 6 cones, then walk 3-4. He would count them.....but I think he would lose count and start over occasionally.

When I got to mile 26, I knew it was going to be a mad dash to the finish. I wasn't going to stop until I got there. I remember Andy doing some sort of skip right when we turned the corner. I heard people calling my name, and I was never so happy to see a group of people in my life!!!

When I crossed the finish line Andy picked up my hand and we crossed the finish line holding hands. That was really cool to me. The lady at the finish line told us we looked like a happy couple, and hoped we both got some that night.....I think we laughed at her because we were so tired.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing....we were just in it for the fun.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much of a warm-down. We walked around for a few minutes, got our finisher's shirts, and went to Freebirds. That was REALLY good!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I told Andy the run would be much more fun if I were faster!!!

Event comments:

We had a lot of fun....I wouldn't change a thing.
