Swim
Comments: For some reason, I wasn't comfortable at the race start, couldn't find my breathing rythym, and decided to tarzan swim for about 250 yds until the crowds dispersed and I became accustomed to the water temp. Swung a bit wide on the first turn, but at least I wasn't getting beaten to death. The time is a rough estimate from glancing at my watch as I got out on the dock. What would you do differently?: Get to the outside early to avoid the crowds. Some people swim like formula 1 cars warming up, side to side wildly as if nothing else was around them. Transition 1
Comments: SWAG on my swim time, and no idea on the T1. I think I had just over a minute from crossing into the transition area, but there was a long run up from the pond, where the timing of the swim stopped. Whateva... What would you do differently?: Not have a helmet full of water? Bike
Comments: Sure wish it had been the longer route. What would you do differently?: Need to work on my cycling legs now. I've been a slacker, and this should have been easier and faster. Transition 2
Comments: You ever feel like T2 is going in slow motion? Maybe it was the soaking wet socks I was trying to put on. Maybe I pushed a bit too hard coming into T2. Maybe I just need to practice more. What would you do differently?: Hurry the hell up! Run
Comments: Aside from my butt hurting (not used to extensive climging on the tri saddle), the run went well. I worked out the soreness in about 1/4 mile and got a great pace and cadence going. At mile 2, I was at 13:xx minutes, and doing well. I found my rabbit near the turn around, and slowly increased my effort up to the sprint (or as close as I could muster) finish. I'm happy with my pace. What would you do differently?: Cheat? Nah, just have to work at getting faster. Though I did think for a half second about turning around at the sprint (5K) turn-around marker. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I mentally unprepared myself to race during the 1 hour delay for weather. That was stupid. Event comments: If you are going to go into someone else's back yard, and know you are going to race at the elite/open/pro level, then damn well sign up accordingly! Age groupers try hard and deserve reward for what they accomplish!! This means YOU, Rafael Fiallo! There were several others that weren't racing at the AG level, also. The way I see it, Swimshady placed 1st in the AG, which put me in at 2nd with a time penalty imposed on another racer. Oh well, next time... Last updated: 2008-02-29 12:00 AM

The standard repacking of the RSV (Race Support Vehicle) and consumption of the complimentary breakfast, along with last-minute hydration. Got to the site with plenty of time to set up and put on my race face. Wound up having more time than anticipated.
Thought about a swim warmup, but then there was lightning. Then, thought about a run warm up (especially if it was to become a duathlon), but then there was more lightning and rain of Biblical proportions. So, my warmup was standing around, wet, in my wetsuit, waiting to pee.
