Comments:

I didnt have a great swim. I dont think people were paying attention in the water. I ended the swim with a black eye and a nice cut on my right nipple. Both from people crossing the bi-directional lanes. My wife was videoing so I could see how I swam. I noticed in one lane 2 people were passing this guy. So they were three abreast in the bi-directional lane. So guess what happened when someone was coming the other way. Head on collision. Ehh. It was a learning expereince. When I got punched I sucked in alot of water which got panicked.
What would you do differently?:

So next race...I need to calm down a little. In practice I have long smooth strokes and my breathing is good. In the race I was bringing up my head more often. I wasnt breathing to the side. I think my strokes were choppy. I think calming down would help alot.
Transition 1

Comments:

My shoe laces caught on my front gears when I got on my bike. I had to jump off and fix them. That slowed me up a bit. Guess thats a good arguement for bike shoes with velcro.

I had wrapped each of my clothes in hand warmers. That was nice. The shoes, socks, and leg warmers were all toasty when I put them on (of course in 30 degrees that didnt last long)
What would you do differently?:

I sit down when changing. I think that slows me up. I may look into bike shoes. I need to lay stuff out better. Forgot the Garmin so I couldnt track mu progess.
Bike

  • 12.54 mile/hr
Comments:

Calves stared cramping halfway through the bike. I am still learning how to spin up the hills properly. Although my bike was so slow it felt good. I did some tucking on the downhill that increased my speed.
What would you do differently?:

I think I need to get my bike setup for me. I was looking at the extesion others had when pedalling, I dont extend as far.I think that may be hurting me. I am thinking ofd taking the bike to Plano Cycle for a proper fit. I mean this bike is just a hand me down from a frien. Maybe it is time to get a big boy bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

I had issue racking my bike. Dont know if it was because the cold or what, but I just couldn't het the seat over the bar.
What would you do differently?:

I drank some gatorade in transition. I think nect time I will take the bottle with me and discard it at the first aide station. Also, I have decided I look like a tool in my cargo shorts. I am buying some dryfit shors for the run.
Run
  • 42m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I made about 1/4 mile out of transition before my calves just locked up. Both right and left just cramped hard. Had to go to a walk. Took about a mile to work out the cramps. I had trouble getting back into rhythm. Eneded up alternating jogging and running on the way in. One of my slowest runs!!
What would you do differently?:

$ months of off season I have been on the ellipticle. That thing is the devil. It totally killed my run. It is great for cardio, but not for my legs. I am getting back to street runs for training.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a cookig from Dave's wifes b-day cake
Sat and chilled at the awards ceremony.
I should have stretched more.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1. I am fat
2. I should have done more surface running in the off season
3. The four weeks of strep, flu, bronchitis, stomach bug before the race didnt help much.

Event comments:

My biggest beef was the swim, but I dont have a solution from and organizer standpoint. Folks just shouldn't double pass. The swim really felt like a free for all. Other than that the race was really well put together. I have heard Jacks races are good anf they were right.

Course: Chip Seal sucks. Man this stuff just zaps any speed you have. This was my first time riding to chip seal. It felt great for the section that went to smooth road. The rolling hills were hillier than I expected. There were alot of LONG ups with little payoff. The payoff you did have was stolen by the chip seal. It was a pretty ride, but tough.
