Pre-race routine:

The plan for Saturday was to go to my master's swim class then head over to my friend's son's birthday party and then head into work. Masters was more difficult than I thought it was going to be (stupid me). I decided to call out of work and stay longer at the party. I had a few beers, burned the back of my neck and arms (redneck), ate pizza headed home ate taco bell, and sat around the rest of the night, had some cereal and went to sleep early. While I got more sleep and better sleep than normal, I ate crap. Maybe this affected me, slightly...

Woke up around 5:30am. Made some coffee, ate a PB&J sandwich, changed hit the bathroom. I sipped water and more coffee on the way to the race. It was an hour drive, I hit the bathroom and then picked up my packet. Headed back to the car got all my stuff and headed over to the transition area. Setup my stuff hit the bathroom one final time.
Event warmup:

I thought the race was at 8am (at least thats what it said online), I was told 8:30am after I had already been warming up doing some jogging.

I would jog for a while dome stretching and the muscle activation things I learned from the videos here at BT then jog some more. I hit the secret bathroom over by the baseball field and then headed over to the race start.

Comments:

The start was very congested, and many people slower than I am were up front. I ran very consistent and fast for myself. Towards the end many people started to fade, I kept checking my pace, and I was right on. So that was nice to see. One water station, not sure if they had HEED/water or one or the other, cups said HEED and I know Hammer was a sponsor. No idea what was being served.
What would you do differently?:

Take a gel before hand.

Comments:

Dismount area was awkward, should have had us dismount just a tad earlier or later. People stopped right in front of me and started walking.
What would you do differently?:

Not stop my watch.

Comments:

There seemed to be a lot of newer riders out. No one was really checking for drafting, but I did not even want a remote perception that I was drafting so I tried not to take the same line as anyone. It seemed like every time I moved over the person in front would move. Many people were all over the road. I got passed a few miles in by two different people with rear discs. I could hear them coming and all of the sudden they were gone. I took one gel during the bike, towards the crest of a hill.

I was finishing up with the bike as the first few people were completing the race.
What would you do differently?:

Not drop my chain and push it a bit harder.

Comments:

More of an issue here with someone stopping in front of me. I had already gotten my feet loose in my shoes, and had one foot on top when someone stopped. I immediately hopped off and ran in with one shoe on one shoe off.
What would you do differently?:

Get both feet out. I really do not think it slowed me down much if any, but it was not very comfortable.

Comments:

One drink station that I skipped. I am much faster coming off the bike, I feel slower, but in actuality I am faster. I pushed hard to the point of wanting to stop more than once during the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, this was an awesome run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Had someone take my chip off for me. Walked around a bit, got some water a massage, ate 2 granola bars, then packed up my stuff waiting for results. I found KathyG, we chatted for a while, waiting for results I eventually left before seeing my results.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dropped my chain, nutrition the day before and unskilled riders.

Event comments:

I really enjoy this race, I had a great time in the fall. I am glad I came back. It was much larger than the fall 347+ vs. 193. There were a few vendors this time around and the post race snacks were fine.

Look at my ascent/descent for those that state that the Garmin 305 is not accurate and garbage, I would beg to differ, almost identical numbers ascending and descending.

I truly think had I not dropped my chain I would have dropped 4-5 places in my AG.
