Pre-race routine:

My alarm(s) did NOT go off! What the hell? I have an extremely good internal clock however and woke up at 6.07am! I ran out the door and the only thing I had was V8 fusion juice...nothing else.
Event warmup:

Walked to the site at least 1/2 mile. Did some small stretches.
Swim
  • 16m 18s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

It's SO busy! I was at the back too, at 1st it was hard to get around everyone but once I found a space in the crowd I took off. The problem is, you catch up with the other wave, people that can't swim, people doing backstroke, people doing breastroke. I passed the 2 waves in front of me. I dithered for a bit near the end because I saw the emergency services performing CPR on someone and it made me feel so sick. I couldn't stop staring. I felt incredibly sad the last part of my swim.
What would you do differently?:

N/A as I probably won't do Danskin again.
Transition 1
  • 07m 12s
Comments:

It's like a bazillion miles from the water to where my bike was racked. I ran all the way and felt blah when I tried to take my suit off. I had to sit down. 7 minutes is fine. Last year it was almost 10.
What would you do differently?:

I need to really work on transitioning!
Bike
  • 42m 25s

Comments:

This is where I get annoyed. I swear that they let just too many people do this race. Or perhaps the course needs to be changed. I was biking UP THE HILL to the I-90 express lanes on ramp when the woman in front of me just suddenly stops! OMG. I get clipped out but loose all momentum and walk up to the road. I floored the entire length of the express lanes, I passed tons of people and got passed and re passed (If you catch my drift) a couple of times. There are a few small rolling, gradual hills and I did farking awesome on them with cadence if I say so myself. I passed a TON of people on hills. God it makes me feel so good about myself, because I did not ride my bike a lot in preparation for this race but whatever I did has improved me no end. Last year my avg speed was 13MPH. This year, almost 18. I'm totally chuffed! I balk on the downhills a little too much but I'm working on that. I know I can go much faster!
What would you do differently?:

Practice downhills more and be less afraid of speed.
Transition 2
  • 04m 34s
Comments:

I lost my rack. Urgh. I just couldn't remember. Stupid as a complete waste of T2 time! Last year it was 4:32!! Pants.
What would you do differently?:

Buy the biggest, ugliest balloon and tie it to my bike!
Run
  • 39m 38s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Not my strong point and after today I really don't think it ever will be. I just ache, my lungs ache, my head aches, my feet, my hips. I am obviously not built to be a runner. I tried my best, I was dehydrated, hot and tired. I wanted to finish in 35 minutes and I failed.
What would you do differently?:

Add MUCH more running into my training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk back to transition area, chat with some finishers and I met my friend Tawnya and we had a good bitch about this race and how it lacked information and how it was too busy. It was really quite stress relieving for both of us.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I don't think my weight is a factor because today there were many overweight people that were much faster than me. I don't think I'm training right. I need to build strength in my legs, back and abdominal areas as well as my forearms. I am going to work on this starting September and I am going to include longer runs at the weekend and more sprinting.

Event comments:

I won't do Danskin again. I have outgrown it. I only signed up because two of my friends were doing it, one of them I fell out with and the other hurt her knee. It's a great race for newcomers, friends and family but can be extremely frustrating if you're aiming for a good time. Still I do love the course.
