Swim
Comments: Bad start, showed up late on deck, ate too much before. first 100 m got passed by guy behind me on first lap, then at end of 100 m swallowed a bunch of water and came up choking. But after that i was great, nobody else came near me, and by the 5th lap i had 100m on the next person so that gave me a full lane to swim in. What would you do differently?: Push harder, perhaps try to draft behind someone longer, realize it is a short race and a sprint. and also tighen my cycling shorts so the do not come off. Transition 1
Comments: Long transition - decided to wear cycling shorts instead of swim suit at last min, eliminated change - which was good, but the came down a bit in swim, so tighten them up. Put shoes on - no socks , was fine that way, then threw on blue tri club winter jersey with black HH long sleeve shirt, this took time and was not easy, wasted time, then race belt and off. What would you do differently?: should have just put on shoes then grabbed my shirt and belt and ran, put shirt on on the way to the bike, would have saved at least 45 sec. Bike
Comments: Bike felt good, was not too cold in jersey and shorts , no socks, coming back each lap i slowed down a bit, could maybe have pushed a bit harder, but not much. I did not drink much, just a few sips of water at the end of the course on each lap. only passed by one person What would you do differently?: Tried to push a bit harder, keep aero longer on way back Transition 2
Comments: getting off bike i got out of my shoes while still riding, came to a stop at the line, but was not able to lift my leg over the seat due to my tight leg muscles,( not from riding but the same tightness i get after running) so i had to put on leg down, then lift my foot over the top tube rather than the seat. but after that the rest of transition was perfect What would you do differently?: Keep stretching and working on my leg tightness Run
Comments: RUn felt great, not stiffness from bike, felt great right from the start, kept up a good pace, did not go too hard, but kept passing people. Only passed by one person again. What would you do differently?: go harder, it's a short race, i could not have gone that much harder, but maybe 30 sec Post race
Warm down: Had some orange slices and a powerbar recovery drink What limited your ability to perform faster: should have pushed even harder, i felt great and was going quite fast, but i never hurt bad like the year i one my age group. give it a shot some time? Event comments: Good race, only real complaint was the lack of sweeping on the course, the bike mount and dismount area was very dirty with lots of gravel and pebbles, it made me not want to run barefoot in transition. also, the run course had soem dead leaves on it that a pass with a street cleaner would have made it much nicer. Also, a lack of any mile markers on the course was noted. Last updated: 2008-03-12 12:00 AM

got to UBC early, ate a slice of pizza, a bottle of powerade and a pack of clif bloks about an hour before race.
Panicing with my locker - got on the pool deck about 5 minutes before start, quickly swallowed a gel and a bit of water and lined up for the race. not good!!!
