Run
Comments: I guess I was optimistic that the rain was going to end soon and the local weather predictors made NO mention of rain until later in the day. Felt good through the first 3 miles of the race. Good pace and the legs felt great for the bike. What would you do differently?: Run in a bubble. Transition 1
Comments: Not bad, the bikes were racked a little close and it was hard to find something to hold onto during the shoe change. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: There are not enough words to describe how cold it was. At some point during the run, the rain turned to sleet, yes sleet. I knew that this ride would be difficult for me and indeed it was. There were some great downhills right at the start that would have been great dry, but wet, they were scary. I never got into a groove as I was freezing and really could not feel my fingers. At about 10 miles in I thought my toes were probably not coming home with me. I struggled to keep the speed above 15 at several places along the course. I was so happy to see the entrance to the park, wondering how I was going to run off of this bike. What would you do differently?: keep sleeping Transition 2
Comments: Frozen. At this point my car was about 300 yards away and I knew I had a nice toasty sweatshirt in there. However, my decided I had come this far and 3.1 miles was not going to stop me. I was able to get my shoes off, tried but failed to take my socks off and finally got my shoes on. I had to really focus on my fingers when I was tying the shoes, they would not respond as normal. I somehow got my helmet unclipped and took off. What would you do differently?: again, sleep in. Run
Comments: When I left T2, it felt like I was running on blocks of ice. My feet were completely numb as well as my hands. I knew that even though I was slow on the bike, my RPM's were in the 80-90 range, which usually equates to a good run. I almost gasped when I looked at the Garmin and it said I was running 7:20. So, even though I could not feel my feet, my legs were churning at a good pace. This was the best part of my race as I was 3rd fastest in the AG and nobody passed me at all. My feet got a little feeling back right at the finish. What would you do differently?: slee...nevermind Post race
Warm down: Warm down? funny What limited your ability to perform faster: sleet, rain, wind Event comments: Good race in a new venue this year. Last updated: 2008-03-20 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:30 and almost hit the snooze and called it a day. After a week of temps in the 60's, Sunday was forecast to be 40. Decided to make it a go and got out of bed and gathered all the gear. The race location was an hour away and I had plenty of time to enjoy a PB sandwich, water and a couple granola bars.
Sat in the car and watched the rain start 15 before the start.
