Swim
Comments: My time was a lot better than I expected, especially because I couldn't swim a straight line to save my life. Thank goodness there was a rope for 1/2 of it so I could keep it in sight. I kept swimming over the top of it though. I was veering right non stop. I felt good with my stroke, felt strong and smooth. By the last turn, I was so tired of getting off course I knew my time would suck. When I got out and saw my time, I was very pleased. I really think it could have been at least 30 sec to a minute faster, though. What would you do differently?: Figure out why I kept going right, and my hips kept sinking, too. Overall, I was 6 seconds faster than last year, despite my lack of swimming this year. Transition 1
Comments: good T1. No real issues, passed a couple of people in the Transition area even What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: not a bad ride considering the lack of riding I've done this year. I was only 2:25 slower than last year. I knocked my sponge off my water bottle as I was getting clipped in. So for the first 1 mile, every bump I hit, showered me with Gatorade. That jsut meant I was out of any fluids by about mile 15. I was hoping to break 1:10 which I did. I knew I don't have the power I needed. I rode a comfortably hard pace, was consistent, nad felt strong at the end. I wasn't displeased with the ride, even though it was slower What would you do differently?: not knock the top off my water bottle 50 yards into the ride Transition 2
Comments: decent transition. I had put my wetsuit in the box and it was covering the bike slot, so I had to move it to get my bike racked, otherwise, it was fine. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: decent run. I was hoping to go 1 minute faster, but I still beat last year by 2 seconds. THe mile markers weren't accurate, the 3 mile mark was really "almost 3.1" and there was no 6 mile mark, it just hit the finish line What would you do differently?: I probably would have had more to drink, but it wasn't too hot, I was feeling OK. Maybe a little more waterr would have helped Post race
Warm down: walked 3/4 mile to the car and drove home. My time last year was 2:18:56, anda I wasn't expecting to beat it primarily due to lack of bike training. That is exactly what I got. My swim was time was 6 sec better, run time was 2 sec better, transitions were about 5 sec slower this year, so almost all of the diference was due to the bike. Event comments: Once again, this was a great race. Especially to be so big, everything runs so smoothly. Expo was great, set up was smooth. Race went off without a hitch. Tons of volunteers, cops to keep traffic away and direct traffic, water stations every mile on the run, and great post-race spread. My only gripe was they did away with the water bottle exchange on the bike. It probably wouldn't have bothered me at all if I hadn't had my water bottle snafu and was out of water by the spot where they've had it in the past Last updated: 2008-03-22 12:00 AM

got up, ate some oatmeal, drove to the race site
rode about 4 miles to make sure everything wasworking. That was it. Ate 1/2 a snickers marathon bar, drank ~8 oz of gatorade. No running. No swimming, but felt eerily good about everything.
