Total Time = 1h 19m 32s
Overall Rank = 31/168
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/18
Pre-race routine:

Ate 2 mini cliff bars and had a bottle of Cytomax throughout the morning.
Event warmup:

50-100 yards of easy swimming
Swim
  • 15m 59s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

I decided to start in the middle of the pack. I didn't get beatup at all, although it was a small race. The whole swim went well and was 100% better than my last OWS in a race. I was really surprised by my sighting and was able to round the bouys right at them. I wasn't able to draft off of anybody for any significant period of time.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get a good draft off of somebody.
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

There was a small run of about 100m or so to the transition area. Once I got there I didn't think to remove my wet suit and put my helmet on at the same time. I was able to get my areo helmet on with no trouble, but when I went to put my sunglasses on one of the lenses fell out and I couldn't get it back in. So I put them on with only one lense to try and fix them on the bike. The jump on to the bike was less than gracefull, but I was a little flustered after my problems with my glasses. 1/18; 2/168
What would you do differently?:

I have superglued my sunglasses so hopefully it won't happen again. I need to practice striping the wetsuit and put the helmet on at hte same time and pratice the flying mount of the bike.
Bike
  • 39m 24s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.93 mile/hr
Comments:

It took a little bit to get my feet in my shoes but it wasn't bad. The first half of the course was almost entirely uphill. My average speed for the first half didn't even break 17 mph. But once I made the turn around I was FLYING!! I even got a new max speed of 44.7 mph. Considering the lack of hill training I do, it went well.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have had a higher cadence go up the hill.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

T2 went well and was out on the run quickly. I ended up leaving the sunglasses at the racks so I wouldn't have to deal with them on the run. 1/18; 18/168
What would you do differently?:

I think I will try some body glide on my feet to see if I can get my socks on faster.
Run
  • 22m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt great the entire time which was a first for a race. I didn't bother with drinking anything and I felt fine. I felt what I thought was the beginning of a side cramp towards the end but it went away.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push it a little bit more at the beginning.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hill training for this course.

Event comments:

Overall the race was very well organized. My only complaint was that they stopped anouncing the names of the finishers towards the end of the race.
