Swim
Comments: First time in an open water swim like this. I tried starting toward the back so I might have less trouble with the congestion. That idea worked out so-so. Did better with my form that my last (first) triathlon but still had much room for improvement. Transition 1
Comments: Things went well up until I was putting my bike gloves on and fingers were getting stuck. Bike
Comments: If I keep going with the tri's it might be time to replace the 30 year old bike I've been riding. Aero bars look like they might give my arms a chance to rest some more and some better gearing would be nice. Bumpy course but other than that nice and flat. Transition 2
Comments: Rode with my running shoes on so this one went quick. Run
Comments: Barely made it to the first water station before realizing I could walk as fast as I was running. Combination of temperature/humidity and longer swim/bike distances than I'd done before left me spent early on. Ran/walked through this stage. Thank goodness for the porta-potty at the ball field because all the water I'd been drinking for the heat finally caught up with me. Post race
Warm down: Walked around while drinking water and snacking on post race goodies. What limited your ability to perform faster: Inadequate training for distances involved and conditions of this race. Event comments: This race had a 3x longer swim than my first, and about 2 mi longer bike. Coupled with the warmer temperatures I was not adequately prepared, which showed when I reached the run. Nevertheless it was a good time and I learned some more about what it takes to get through one of these events. Well organized with ample water and snacks. Last updated: 2008-03-30 12:00 AM
