Swim
Comments: Swim was ok. The purpose of this race was to get time in my wetsuit, since I hadn't worn it yet. I need to figure out how to make the neck a little more forgiving. It was hard to sight with the zipper at the top. What would you do differently?: Get a better position at the start. I was on the far inside and kept hitting stragglers from other waves. When I rounded the buoy, I practically had to keep from running into the thing. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit strippers were awesome! I got some young, strong guys who ripped the suit off in no time. I made sure to thank them as I took off to my bike. Bike
Comments: There was a no passing zone at the beginning of the bike, where I just happened to need to pass some people. I got stuck behind them for a while until the road opened up. Oh well. The bike was ok, but I'm trained for longer, slower rides so I'm not used to going that hard at this point. What would you do differently?: After IMAZ, it's time for speedwork. Transition 2
Comments: Shoes were too loose...I'm used to thicker socks so I forgot to tighten my lock laces. What would you do differently?: Tighten shoes! Run
Comments: Meh. Pretty pathetic run for me. I was going too hard at the beginning (which used to be my comfortable pace) and had to slow down because I couldn't breathe. It's been about a month since I started running again after injury, so I guess it's not so bad considering the circumstances. I got passed by 2 people in my age group and couldn't catch back up. I had also had to pee since I started the swim, but I didn't want to waste time in the port-o-potty so I gutted it out and finished. What would you do differently?: Maybe bring my inhaler on the run, but it just comes down to lack of speed work over the last month and injury before that. I was just glad to be racing! Post race
Warm down: Rushed to find a port-o-potty, but they all looked barricaded off in the transition area (volunteers wouldn't let us in until everyone went through T2), so I ran to the swim exit, ripped off my shoes (left my socks on!) and ran into the water. It was nice and cool, so I hung out on the exit ramp for a few minutes and cooled down. Then I went to go find food! What limited your ability to perform faster: Injury earlier this year, lack of sprint-specific training, and lack of food. All in all, I had a good time...I just wish I could've run faster! Event comments: Volunteers were awesome! There were cheerleaders, bike repair people, food preparers, water station workers, flag wavers on the bike, and everyone was positive and cheery! It was a great atmosphere and a very well-organized race. I wish I could've stayed for Sunday's races! Maybe I'll go back and do the half one of these days... Last updated: 2008-03-30 12:00 AM

Woke up early (maybe too early) ate a Luna bar and had nasty hotel coffee. I should've brought another snack, because breakfast was at 5am and the race didn't start for another 3 hours! I was starving by the time we got in the water.
Not a whole lot...spent most of the time trying to squeeze into my wetsuit. Apparently they're not made for women with boobs, so I had to pull more material up to make the neck not choke me!
