Pre-race routine:

To sleep at 11:00PM, had a hard time sleeping, up at 5:00AM, for a scrambled egg, toast, and a banana. This was followed by a lot of water.
Event warmup:

Jogged up and down the beach a couple of times. Light stretching and a short swim to get use to the water.
Swim
  • 10m 12s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

I started from the back of the pack in the swim. Used breaststroke mainly to navigate through the pack or around it. A lot of weeds in the first 200m, but I was able to switch to freestyle after rounding the second bouy.
What would you do differently?:

Start the swim at the front of the pack, I spent far too much time swimming around slower and poor navigating swimmers.
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Went surprisingly well, everything went pretty much to plan. I think a little more hurried pace would allow a little bit faster time without too much stumbling. Possibly try going without socks and shoes clipped into pedals already.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at this point.
Bike
  • 39m 53s
  • 12.24 miles
  • 18.41 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt pretty good and I passed quite a few people from previous waves. Jon, Steve, and Chris (the runners) caught me in the last 1/4 of the bike...darn!
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate more, and put aerobars on the bike. Aiming for a 19.5mph average next time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Went pretty good. Transition went fairly quick and I just took my time to gather myself and prepare for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Have feet out of shoes before enter transition area.
Run
  • 32m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Walked half the time, but I finished strong. It ended up being my fastest 5K yet. I beat all of my training runs and finished worn out.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster and longer!
Post race
Warm down:

Drink water, nibble on bagels, and tri not to puke. Talk to family and cheered others on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough hydration on the bike for the run.

Event comments:

Great race, beautiful venue. Plan to race for many years to come. Plus it was my first Tri! Amazing experience and I'm hooked, now off to purchase aerobars and a tri-saddle.
