Swim
Comments: Our wave was delayed a few minutes as the life guards had to attend to a swimmer who got in trouble in the wave ahead of us. Quite happy with swim as I did not freak out like I normally do when it's cold. Not sure why it's so incredibly slow though. Judging by everybody's swim time (eg fastest swimmer in my AG posted a 2:14/100m split), the course is probably not accurately measured. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit a little stuck on right heel but otherwise uneventful. T1 and T2 time included in bike split. Bike
Comments: A lot of riders on course and there're many cars on the race route as well. A few times I was stuck behind cars which were following some slow cyclists. Very frustrating as I couldn't pass as I didn't want to risk DQ by going past centre line. Strong 30kph winds so I didn't stay aero very much, simply didn't feel safe. Between watching for traffic and battling winds, I didn't drink enough, although I don't think this affected my performance as it's a very short race. Bike computer measured avg speed of 28kph and top speed of 50.5kph. For some reason, official results have a whole bunch of bike and run splits missing due to interference. Splits and AG ranking in this race report are based on my own calculations. What would you do differently?: Drink more Transition 2
Comments: Uneventful. T1 and T2 time included in bike split. Run
Comments: Run started with a hill and then trails. Not really used to trail running. For some reason, official results have a whole bunch of bike and run splits missing due to interference. Splits and AG ranking in this race report are based on my own calculations. Post race
Warm down: No warm down. I was still quite cold after the race, but they won't let us back into transition area, not even to get a jacket, until everybody has finished the bike. I've never encountered that. Event comments: Since this is the first race of the season and only 5 days before the Worlds, I just wanted to get my feet wet and make sure everything go smoothly. I didn't push myself too hard and I erred on the side of caution as I didn't want to injure myself or get into an accident. Overall, this served as a good prep race and I'm quite happy with my performance. I might have been on the podium if they used 5yr AG instead of 10yr. There were many more F40-44 women and they're much faster. No matter, I know I can push harder come Worlds. Last updated: 2008-04-07 12:00 AM
