Swim
Comments: So, this looks weird on the report, but this race turned into a run, bike, run because there wasn't enough water in the lake to swim. Therefore, we had to run 2 miles before the bike. I tried to stay on pace with a 9-minute mile. These times are figured to the best of my ability, as split times STILL haven't been posted. What would you do differently?: I was actually pretty happy with my pace, as I haven't been training this fast. Transition 1
Comments: I'm not sure about these numbers either, but I did have trouble getting my shoe off that had the footpod on it. Also, my helmet strap was twisted, and it took me a few seconds to get that straightened out. There was a 100 yd run to the mount line from T1. What would you do differently?: Hopefully the shoe won't be an issue, as I'd probably swim first instead of run. I guess I could be more attentive to the helmet straps before I try to put it on. Bike
Comments: Oh, my word, that was an unbelievable bike time. When I looked at my watch, I was sure DD would not be waiting for me in transition yet. I told her to look for me in about 40 minutes. 27 minutes sure was a surprise. It seems to me that all of the riding into the wind has paid off, and I'll never complain about that again!!! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I knew I didn't have to run after the bike, so I gave it everything I had. Transition 2
Comments: All I had to do was run into transition and rack my bike, then DD took off. Fortunately she was hanging around the transition area when she saw me come in. Run
Comments: It was so cool to do this race with my 16 yo daughter. I learned to admire her for her determination. She decided not to let anyone pass her on the run. What would you do differently?: Emily should probably train at a faster pace if she intends to race at a faster pace. I think she learned a lot, and she is definitely hooked on racing now. Boy did that run kick her hiney! Post race
Warm down: I didn't really warm down. I ran around and cheered at people for a couple of hours after I was done. What limited your ability to perform faster: We are both slow runners. I want to push my short runs to a faster pace after this. Event comments: I rated this race 'best' because of the small-town atmosphere. Sure it could have been more high tech, but it didn't need to be. DD and I had a great time, and we will probably do this race again together next year. Last updated: 2008-04-07 12:00 AM

Ate a banana and half a bagel. Took an Excedrin.
Jogged a bit with Emily. Had fun watching everyone else warm up. Used my inhaler about 30 minutes before race start.
