Pre-race routine:

Wake up 5:00 AM to drive to event. cereal & bananas for breakfast
Event warmup:

Some basic stretching. I wanted to get in the pool & warmup, but made a call that I would just tighten up due to the cold, rainy day.
Swim
  • 04m 13s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 17s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder. Since this was my first Tri ever, wasn't sure about effort for each event, so I took it pretty easy. Can work harder over this short distance. My goal should be to win the swim given my background.
Transition 1
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Pretty slow T1. Concerned about weather, so I wasted time with gloves, jacket that I didn't end up using.

Also I chose to put on bike shoes rather than start with them clipped in. Clipping in slowed me down due to lack of clip experience.
What would you do differently?:

Make firm decision prior to racve on apparel & stick to the plan. Also, will plan to start with shoes clipped in and put them on once on the bike and up to speed.
Bike
  • 29m 4s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.64 mile/hr
Comments:

In general, I was fine with the bike. Wasn't sure what to expect since I have limited bike experience. Was please with the final time. This was my weakest leg (as expected) relative to other competitors. Probably my best opportunity for big time improvements as I get experience & fitness on bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Pretty good T2. Zip laces definitely helped.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practices getting off bike faster - getting out of shoes in particular.
Run
  • 19m 51s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty good run. Felt like I could/should have gone faster. I have done very little 5K training/speed work. So 6:30 pace is not bad IMO.
What would you do differently?:

Get after run faster. Practice more bricks to get used to transition.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience. Bike specific fitness.

Event comments:

This was a pretty cool race to do as a first Tri. I had a ton of fun & will be back. Cold weather was an issue. Esp going from an 85 deg pool to a 50 deg windy bike course!
