Overall Rank = 17/54
Age Group = F 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/12
Pre-race routine:

We drove up to Whistler after we picked up the kids from school on Thursday afternoon. That allowed us plenty of time to do what we needed to do on Friday and not feel rushed. We all rode our bikes to pick up the packages in the afternoon. We got a good chuckle when we discovered that my race number was 69!! I was surprised to see my 14 year old laugh at this - how in the heck does he know anything about this!!?!?

Had a good pasta dinner and was in bed by 10pm
Event warmup:

Actually did very little in the way of warm up. My 8 and 11 year old both did the KOS so we were at the event quite early and busy with helping them prepare for their first triathlon.
Swim
  • 06m 50s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

I am really pleased with my swim time. I only took my first swimming lesson on Feb. 19th of this year! the swim felt really good. I gave an estimated time of 8 min when I registered for the event (at which time I was only able to swim 25m at a time!)...but as the event got closer I thought I would be happy with a time of about 7:15-7:30. I am thrilled with 6:50. I passed about 5 people in the pool (not easy since the lanes were so narrow) and I got passed by 1.
What would you do differently?:

just work on speed and learn (at some point) flip turns.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

the transition times are rolled into the bike time. I thought T1 went pretty smoothly.
Bike
  • 36m 47s
  • 14 kms
  • 22.84 km/hr
Comments:

the first half was quite hilly, but I attacked it. I passed about 10 people on the bike. I got passed by one guy right out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

need to practice more hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

included in bike time. went smoothly.
Run
  • 22m 33s
  • 4 kms
  • 05m 38s  min/km
Comments:

My body just DID NOT want to run at this point in the race. I walked for a tiny bit at the first water station. My breathing felt not very controlled or relaxed. I made a stupid mistake and tried to run in my new zoot flats without having tried them first - and also foolishly decided that this would be the first time I would try running sockless (yes you can call me STUPID)....I had really nasty blisters by the turn around point. The second half of the run was not fun - my breathing had calmed down by this point -but my feet were in agony. I am a bit surprised by my time -because the run actually felt much slower.
What would you do differently?:

if I am going to try running sockless again - make sure I practice in training first! and do more bricks!
