Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45, had toast w/ some jelly, loaded the car, and headed to Boulder. Had a power bar in the transition area
Event warmup:

short swim prior to start
Swim
  • 47m 9s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

My swimming sucks!!! I could not seem to swim in a straight line, and would not be surprised if I actually swam 2,500.

My bike and run are getting much better, but I just can't figure the swim out. I'm putting in more yardage than ever, but this time is almost identical to the Longhorn last year without a wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

Had to pee, which took a bit of time

Comments:

I enjoyed the course, and beat my previous HIM bike time by over 13 minutes. I finished the first loop in 1:30, and may have pushed the 2nd loop just a it harder than I otherwise would have to try to crack the 3:00 mark, which I do not regret at all.

I was in wave 8 of 9, with all of the women starting in earlier waves. I was excited, as this would be the first race where I didn't get chick'd, but the women pros on their 2nd loop caught me in the middle of my 1st loop. Holy crap they are fast. I can take some solace in the fact that they started over 30 miutes before me.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Transition 2
  • 04m 8s
Comments:

Took some time to hit porta potty. There were none on the bike course, and I just couldn't bring myself to relieve myself on the bike with people behind me.

Run
  • 2h 23m 51s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I got a stomach cramp about 3/4 of a mile in, ad had to walk for about 1 minute. I really was hoping to go under a 10:00 pace, but had to do more walking than I would have liked.
Post race
Warm down:

Massage and a beer

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This race was really a prep for Cancun 70.3 next month, and was not treated like an A-Race. I wanted to test my nutrition plan and bike pacing, which I feel were spot on.

I did not do any bricks in training, and my legs were not really used to running off the bike. All in all, I am happy with my time, which was 52 minutes faster than my only other half.

Event comments:

There really should be porta potties on the bike course
