Swim
Comments: My goal for this race was not to be concerned with time, but to get in the middle of things and mix it up. That I did. Pretty much for the whole swim, I was around people. Got hit a few times and kept hitting this one girl on the butt for awhile. If it was a BT'er, I apologize and had nothing but the most honorable of intentions! This was my first beach start and it was fine. I started swimming while people in front of me were still running in the water. I also kept swimming until my hands touched the bottom. All around me, people were running through the water. I think my was was better. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was really happy with this swim. Not fast but that was not the goal. I proved to myself that I do not have to hang back until I get clear water. I can swim in a pack and not drown. Transition 1
Comments: A big thank you to Aaron. He crashed at our house Saturday night and after we got back from dinner, he offered our very own transition clinic. We entertained the neighbors by practicing flying dismounts and getting on the bike in a more efficient way. I am proud to say that I pulled it off and Aaron has the pictures to prove it! Of course it helped that he ran from the beach to the transition area with me and reminded me to make sure that my pedals were in the right place :) What would you do differently?: Next step is to learn how to get on to the bike with the shoes already clipped in. I may try this before IronGirl on Sunday. It was a long run back to the transition area so I am not unhappy with that time since I feel I did everything right. Bike
Comments: I really hammered on the bike! I was very proud of my effort out there today. Felt great. Handled the hills well and passed a lot of people. I did get passed by a few but I just rode my own race and pushed it as hard as I could. What would you do differently?: Drink a little more but other than that, I was very happy with my ride. Transition 2
Comments: Yeah for me...got my feet out of the shoes at just the right time. Beautiful flying dismount and ran holding on the saddle not the bars...another thing we practiced on the street in front of my house. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was happy with this transition! Run
Comments: I was so afraid that I totally trashed my legs on the bike, but I felt OK on the run. Not great, but I found a cadence that worked for me and kept it the whole time. Never had to walk! I knew that I was gaining on Steve, and I saw him on this little out and back section that I guess they added to make the distance correct. I was coming up in that area, and he was coming back. At that point, he was about 2 minutes ahead of me. At the turnaround, I picked up about 30 seconds and was about a minute behind. I could see him, but could never seem to catch up! It was very funny, as I was running back, I can't even tell you how many BT'ers I passed who told me that he was right ahead and if I sped up, I could catch him. I tried. I though it would be cool to finish at the same time but I could not close the gap! Overall, I felt OK on the run. What would you do differently?: I think that I need to start running with people who are faster than me. I think that is the piece of my training that I am missing. Post race
Warm down: Crossed the line, got something to drink and waited for the other BT'ers to finish the sprint and Oly. What limited your ability to perform faster: As always, the run! Event comments: Great things to say about the race itself. It was well organized, on time, plenty of volunteers and good course. The wheels fell off for the post race. The scoring was all jacked up. They did not have me registered as Athena, they had me in AG. Not a big issue except I would have taken 2nd in Athena but was BOP in AG. Oh well. They also has Steve listed as a woman. The awards ceremony took forever to start and when it did, it was totally disorganized. It was nice that they went 10 deep in awards, but they needed a plan. I also wish they had a packet pickup in the Ft. Worth area. Definite highlights from the day... Meeting Brittany in person Spending a Sunday, wearing spandax with some of my closest friends. All of the hardware taken home by the BT'ers Steve taking home hardware..I am so proud of you baby!! All in all, an awesome day! Last updated: 2008-04-19 12:00 AM

Had to drive halfway across Texas to do packet pick-up on Saturday. DSU used to use Sun and Ski in Grapevine Mills but for some reason they were only offering pick-up in Plano and Lewisville. They really need to offer something closer to Ft. Worth. Had dinner Saturday night with the gang (Jeepfleeb, Doughboy, Jcagg90, Oldag92, TexasMpGal, Bonbeebee, Gaarryy, Jah2212, triritter and dockshock). Up at the butt-crack of dawn to head out to the lake. Thanks to Aaron for driving. I actually got a little nap in on the way up.
Nothing much. DSU has open racking but I got a decent spot about midway through transition. Got set up and waited on the beach for the women's start.
