Swim
Comments: Most of my time was taken getting to the 50 yard bout. There were people turning around and the rescue swimmers were pulling people out, so I think just making all the way through the swim was a big thing. There was one guy that I passed who was holding on the the last bouy for dear life. I felt bad for him, but that was just the kind of thing that this swim did to people. What would you do differently?: Not take too long getting to the 50 yard bouy, and find someone to draft on. A lot of people were scattered because of the waves. The swim was Red Flag, so if you were not a strong swimmer then you were done. Transition 1
Comments: I had not practiced T1 and had forgotten my towel so T1 was a disaster. I was kind of wiped after the swim so I knew that I had to start slow on the bike. Took a little too long to catch my breath. What would you do differently?: Have everything laid out on a towel like I saw a lot of experienced people doing. That made a lot of sense. Also a bucket of water to wash the sand off. That was a good idea as well. Will not take so much time next time. Bike
Comments: The swim had taken a lot out of me, so I didn't have much of a get up and go. Started off waaayyyyy to slow. I am about 50 pounds overweight, but that is better than the 80 pounds that I started at before christmas. Need to drop those extra lbs and I think that will give me a little bit more speed. There was a big headwind going out and that turned into a semi-tailwind coming back. Picked up 3-5 mph on the ride back. What would you do differently?: Drop the weight and push a little harder. I could have done more. Transition 2
Comments: Some goofball just dropped their bike or laid it down on our rack so others were having to shuffle to get their bikes back on the rack. Some poeple are just plain stupid. Luckily they were gone before I got back or I would have given them a piece of my mind. What would you do differently?: Put yanx on my running shoes and learn to just chunk stuff, but my OCD can be a bad thing. Run
Comments: I should have done a lot more brick workouts. I was wiped after the first two events and I had not done much bike to run training. My legs felt like lead and for some reason I just couldn't get going. Overall not the race I wanted to run, but I will chalk it up to a learning experience. What would you do differently?: A lot more brick training and probably hydrate better the day before. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a few minutes and then cleaned up my transition area. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight...lack of proper hydration. Event comments: Will do this again next year, but I will do this again about 50 pounds lighter and I hope it will drop my time about an hour. Last updated: 2008-04-19 12:00 AM
