Swim
Comments: Aweful start. Not sure whether it was the cold water or the running start but I lost my breath immediately and never gained composure until the last leg of the swim. I never felt cold but I think it really affected my breathing from the beginning. Since I couldn't catch my breath I never developed a rhythm. In addition, my goggles fogged up immediately. Some how I still managed to beat my previous OWS 750 time by almost 2 minutes. I didn't know this though because I forgot to start my watch. What would you do differently?: Should have gotten in the water before the start to acclimate my body to the temp. Transition 1
Comments: 4th furthest rack from bike start. That was a long run with bike shoes on. Bike start is on a hill. Followed others by running to the top of the small hill to mount. What would you do differently?: Should've just started immediately... I like hills :-) Need to learn how to start with feet out of shoes. Bike
Comments: I liked the course a lot! I had a great time on the bike. I started to cramp up a little and had to stretch my leg a couple times on DH's but I think I had more to give on the bike. I think I was depressed about the swim and gave up a little thinking I wouldn't be improving anyway. STUPID STUPID STUPID!!! What would you do differently?: Push harder. Add some tonic water to my water bottle for cramping. Transition 2
Comments: Long way to run in bike shoes. Think I sat to take off my shoes. Can definitely improve here. What would you do differently?: Learn to ride ON shoes. Run
Comments: Thought to myself... "man you're running slow but stay here for a couple minutes until you get your legs." Never really picked up until after the turn around. Too late to make up any real time. My run felt great as a pacing run but I should've and could've pushed harder. What would you do differently?: Need to practice more bricks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post race
Warm down: Stretch. Gatorade. Meet up with buddy's family to watch him finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mostly mental I think. The swim really got me off my game. Plus I didn't keep track of my swim time so I had no idea that even though it felt crappy I was still improved from last year. Event comments: I will be there next year! Woke up at 6:00 AM. Showered. Doubled checked my bag. Ate breakfast - bowl of strawberry medley cereal, cup of coffee, PB on toast. Hydrated - two or three bottles of water. Drove to site. Grabbed timing chip. Set up for T1 and T2. Stretched.
None - that was a mistake!!!
