Swim
Comments: Crowd thinned fairly quickly. Practicing sighting and switching to and from breast-stroke (when it got too crowded) in pool helped. Ha! Wasn't expecting to have to run down the beach first. Big part is that I was able to remain calm the whole time. I didn't have to get on my back and only had to switch to breast stroke twice due to being elbow to elbow with some folks. What would you do differently?: I'll try to swim faster next time. Was more focused on swimming straight since I only breathe right side. Transition 1
Comments: Holy long transition run!!! I heard a rumor that it was .3 miles from beach to T1. The "hill of death" right before you get to the transition area was fun. Path was fairly clear the whole way though. Didn't hit any rocks. Actual transition was fairly easy and quick. There was no need for a water bucket. Just a quick towel off. What would you do differently?: Work on keeping my breathing under control right out of the water. I think I'll get some actual tri shoes. These road shoes have too many straps to adjust. Bike
Comments: Really glad I put the electrolyte mix in my aero drink. Really warm out and I think it helped. Took a gel at start of bike and at end. Coming in to the bike finish area was fun! It was downhill and I came flying in at top speed. Too bad that spectator walked in front of me. What would you do differently?: Going to try and keep doing the Thursday rides with the club. It will help me on the hills. Transition 2
Comments: This one was fairly quick too because I had a great transition spot. Popped off the helmet and shoes, slipped on the flats (with yanks), then grabbed hat and race belt to put on while running. - Race didn't log my T2 time. I know it was quick, but really would like to have known actual time. What would you do differently?: At some point, I'll practice leaving my shoes on the bike and doing a flying dismount. Run
Comments: Opted not to run with race hat most of the way. Seemed too hot. There appeared to be the setup for a water station at the turnaround point, but there was no water there. Only water station was a bottle of water handed to you just after leaving T2. Took a slight detour just to throw it away in a trash can. What would you do differently?: Not much. Just make sure you drink as much as possible on the bike, in case there is no water station. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Friggin hot outside! Event comments: Despite the unattended water station and 4x4 gravel road portion of the course, I enjoyed myself. Last updated: 2008-05-16 12:00 AM

Drank a lot of water and electrolyte mix 2 days leading up. Woke way early and drove out to Lanier. Was able to access the park and transition early, so I picked the primo transition spot near the bike start.
About 50 minutes before the start, I took a short jog. Then, I took my first gel and went down to the water for a warmup swim.
