Swim
Comments: Definitely need to work on swimming more. Spent all my training on drills and had no endurance in my bad freestyle. Swam 50m freestyle then rolled into recovery position and kicked the remaining 250m. What would you do differently?: Not much. I need to finish the progression through the drills to a full stroke. I will take the TI clinic in June. Transition 1
Comments: This was a long transition. The Tri suit was nice as it seemed quick getting changed. Socks were a little hard to get on with wet feet. I was nervous mounting the bike, I know I can do better. What would you do differently?: I need to practice this more. Smooth is fast. I forgot to check the gear on the bike when setting up transition and didn't prep the crank while approaching the mount line. Bike
Comments: I loved the bike course! Except for the speed bumps.... Hills are fun! All the commutes to SFU helped I guess. Oh, and descending is even more fun. I did get cut off by a car that practically stopped for a speed bump in front of me. I did the course in about 32:19 including part of the bike to run transition. The transitions were not timed separately. All my transition was in the bike time. What would you do differently?: I would push a little harder. I limited myself to 300W but didn't push for that the whole way. I need to push more on the flats and as much as possible on the descents. Transition 2
Comments: I racked the bike wrong. Why waste time turning the bike around and feeding the back wheel in? Changing shoes was quick. What would you do differently?: Push the bike straight into the rack. Run
Comments: I did not do enough bricks! I never knew a 4k run could feel so bad. I decided to do a 4 and 1 run/walk split which I should have stopped at the halfway mark but didn't. There was way more support stations on this run than I expected. I got more water and gatorade than I did at the Historic Half! I actually turned some down. I think I met that high fiving guy in the white top here. First guy I passed going the other way was wearing white and high fiving everybody. The run took 25:27 with about a minute in transition. It's actually where I expected to be. What would you do differently?: Drink less. Stop the 4:1 run/walk splits at the halfway mark and push the rest of the run. I recovered from this race way too quickly! Post race
Warm down: Little bit of walking and grazing on the post-race food. Banana, trail-mix, orange juice and water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swimming. I left so much time in the pool it's not funny! I should have pushed harder on the rest of the course. Ya, ya. I didn't know what to expect, but I was fine the next day. No soreness. That's just wrong. Event comments: I really enjoyed myself! It was worth the drive from Vancouver to do this event. Whistler has a great atmosphere and putting this in the middle for first timers was great. I'm hooked now. The race started late, but this follows a kids-of-steel event and you can't make kids follow a schedule. It just gave us more time to get to know the other competitors and to socialize. The maps mailed out earlier in the week were nearly illegible as they had been rescaled a bit too much, but the courses were very, very clearly marked and straight forward. Maps weren't needed. I would do this race again if I could. Official times are not posted yet, so I will edit them when they come out. These are from my GPS and watch. Last updated: 2008-05-18 12:00 AM

Woke at 5:30 and had a bagel with peanut butter, orange juice and some coffee. Sat back and relaxed in the hotel, read and tried to read the bike course map.
None.
