Pre-race routine:

The idea of muddy buddy is that you have a partner...one person starts out running and the other riding. When you get to the obstacle, you stop running/hop off the bike, do the obstacle and start running or riding (whichever you weren't doing). At the end, you adn your partner crawl on your hands, knees and belly through a mud pit.

Since we camped out in the park where the race was, we were up at 6:20 to get ready and walk to the start. I had a uncrustable and some water and then a GU before we left camp.
Event warmup:

Brad, Sissy, Zeph, Barb and I walked less than a mile to the race start. We parked our bikes and hit the port-o-potties before taking a few "before" pictures.
The race was a bit delayed due to traffic...another benefit of camping in the park. We said our good lucks to everyone and waited for our wave to start.
I started on the bike which meant I biked legs 1, 3 and 5.
Overall I felt good on the bike...speeding down the downhills and spinning up the hills. Last year, they had a very technical part in leg 1 which they got rid of this year. Obstacle 1 was a small rock wall with a cargo net on the other side. Leg 2 was running and was a pretty long leg with some decent uphills. Brad passed me about 6:30 minutes into running this leg and yelled some encouragement. Also leapfrogged with Sissy a few times. Came into obstacle 2 which was a balance beam. Besides having to wait a second for the chick in front of me, there were no issues. Grabbed the bike for leg 3. They added a new section here which I think they just cleared the day before the race. It went through freshly cut plants. There were roots sticking up everywhere and most of the ground was soft and mulch like. Brad was unfortunately waiting for me when I got to obstacle 3 which was an over/under bar thing. Running for leg 4. I caught up to Zephyr and it was great to run with him for a bit. We were both commenting on how we were tasting our PB & J from the morning. He decided to walk and I kept running. Next obstacle was a cargo net climb to a huge inflatable slide...probably the most fun obstacle besides the mud pit. Had a slight issue finding the bike since my glasses were foggy. Got up to speed and then switched it into the easiest gear for what I knew was coming. Had to dismount, carry the bike down the small bank of a creek and walk through the waist high water w/ the bike. The other side was a steep hill and I managed to get up to speed with no issues. Finally hit the pavement and pushed as hard as I could go. Pulled into the bike drop off, ran out to find Brad and we climbed into the mud pit. It was pretty solid mud at first until we moved over to the wetter part. Brad was slithering very fast and started to get further away until I leaped on his back to slow him down a bit. We hit the end, climbed out to cross the finish line.

Post race
Warm down:

We found Barb and then watched Sissy and Zeph go through the mud pit. We got an "after" photo taken before heading back to camp to clean up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe more practice on the mountain bike or more trail running.

Event comments:

This is the second time we've done this race and it's so fun!
Pros: camping in the park is a must, fun course, lots of volunteers, awesome mud pit, chip timing

Cons: packet pickup was a little bit of a CF, hoses had issues at the end, cotton shirt (vs. last year's performance shirt)

Overall, an awesome race that we plan on doing next year.
Maybe with costumes...
