Pre-race routine:

I almost decided not to race this one...I did something and BOTH of my quads were hurt earlier this week - and it really bothered me on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday...it could be because my bike seat was raised...but it hurt to both cycle and run a little. I said I was going to just get my packet...of course when I did I knew I wanted to do it, and just do the best I could. My friend PJ and I shared a hotel room - along with her daughter and my two kiddos...who I just got from the airport...and were still on California time...yes...they thought it was party time when it was bedtime.

Paula and I got to transition on Sunday at about 5:45am - we both got GREAT spots...and did the normal pre-race things...chip...body marking...and I ate a granola bar for breakfast.
Event warmup:

Swam 200M
Swim
  • 07m 53s
  • 383 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim compared to my next best race has improved by....ONE WHOLE SECOND per 100 - lol.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to work on the drills I learned at the swim clinic two months ago. Oh- and more pool time....which is hard with my schedule. I do the best with the pool time I can get. I'm not complaining - I have so much fun doing these events.

7/24 in my AG
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s

3/24 in my AG for T1
Bike
  • 39m 25s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 19.48 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs started aching (the quads thing) right at about mile 10. Oh - I lost my aeropad too...lol...on the first loop. I still went as hard as I could go...after the first loop I knew I would not get a 20mph average on this course, but I had fun!!! The more I do these races, the more I realize how much I LOVE riding my bike.

1/24 in my AG
What would you do differently?:

Adjust my seat BACK TO THE RIGHT POSITION last week when I realized it was a tad higher than normal (it was raised to be put on a bike rack for other adjustments, and just not put back exactly in the same spot...not a lot, but enough)...but I really thought I might have liked it better...hmmm...maybe the throbbing has nothing to do with the seat - I will have to have my bike coach check it for me soon....other than that though...I had the best bike split in my AG...that was nice! I have only done that one other time!
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

3/24 in my AG for T2
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn the flying dismount. Simple.
Run
  • 27m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I did almost fall again - I need to pay attention. This run sucked. My garmin measured it at 3.24....but I could have started it earlier than the timing mat...really does not matter.

5/24 in my AG - not happy with that....
What would you do differently?:

I'm doing it...working on more speedwork.... Also - I think I could have pushed harder. I need to just PUSH at the beginning...I have done that before and was pleased with my time - I'm not sure why I am so gun shy now.
Post race
Warm down:

Talked with other participants and waited for Paula to finish. We sat and talked about the whole race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I said it all already.

Event comments:

How do you have the best bike split in your AG but only place 4th? Easy -gotta improve on everything else. My running is still not good. My swimming time is still the SAME (one second better is the same - ha) as it was in March! LOL! My running is WORSE! Speedwork...gotta get it back....I don't think my hurting quads really affected my performance that much...meaning it's no excuse for my poor running.

All in all - I had a good time. It was great to do another triathlon with my best friend. I always say that the Old College Tri is my standing favorite, and I realized it was another event we did together, and where we travelled together.

It was of course great seeing the BT group as always! They are always the best for cheering and encouragement.

I really love these events...I looked back, and this was my 8th one - still new to the sport, and still loving it! I have met so many great people, and have made so many great memories! Also...triathlons are so much fun!!!
