Total Time = 6h 33m 9s
Overall Rank = 1282/
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 30/57
Pre-race routine:

ate a small cup of oatmeal, a banana, 1/2 cliff bar and sipped on water.
Event warmup:

we got to transition so late I didn't get to do anything but panic.
My back tire was definitely not inflated enough. But I had to get to the water ASAP.
Swim
  • 36m 8s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

since I had not trained for this event I decided to start in the back of the wave to stay out of the way of the people who were "racing". I was very comfortable with this swim but was alone for most of it which is good as far as not being hit but I had to sight more.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 05m 7s
Comments:

I am not a speedy transitioner.
Bike
  • 3h 03m 27s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I was in a great amount of pain until about mile 40 when my shoulder for the most part went numb. This was the point I decided that instead of a DNF I was going to finish regardless of how long it took. I am going to have to get my neck/shoulder healed if I am going to bike over 30 miles so I don't know when I will be attempting another event of this distance. As far as the actually ride went we were blessed with overcast skies so it was not hot and the rain did not really bother me.
What would you do differently?:

I am very pleased with my time all things consisdered.
Transition 2
  • 04m 13s
Comments:

I had to pour water from the rain out of my shoes at which point I decided it was probably useless to change socks.
Run
  • 2h 44m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I don't think I actually ran more than 2 miles, thank goodness I am a fast walker. One guy made a comment about me walking. I told him I didn't have any run left in me to which he responded "apparently neither do I"... since I was walking and keeping up with his run! That was encouraging
Post race
Warm down:

look for my friends! We made no "meet up" plans

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Due to IT band, sciatic and a neck injury I was not able to train like I should have.

Event comments:

This was my first HIM and I am ecstatic with my time! I had intended to do the swim and gut out the bike and stop. I am so happy I completed it and physically I feel pretty good as well
