Swim
Comments: I still haven't gotten used to the OWS and mass starts. Caught a couple of mouthfuls of water. Not to bemoan the point, because I'm sure lots of people have done it, but swimming with no goggles sucks. Lesson learned. What would you do differently?: Um, I'm not even going to mention the obvious. The other things would include picking up a wet suit at some point, practicing the OWS, and getting more comfortable with running into people, people running into me, and drafting. Also I stood up from swimming too soon. I was a little less than waist deep and I know this cost me some time. Transition 1
Comments: I need to practice getting into the shoes. I have a decent cyclocross mount, but once I was on and pedaled out for a ways, I tried getting my feet into the shoes and had a little trouble with the tongue (mountain biking shoes didn't help the situation since they had a separate tongue). I'm sure I annoyed some of the others with some swerving, and it helped me to get passed by several. Other than that I can't complain about my T1. Sunglasses on attached to my bar, put those on, out on the course. Went ahead and attached my number belt then helmet and ran on. No socks, no problem there. What would you do differently?: Maybe get some tri specific shoes. Also get them on sooner so that I can ramp up to speed more quickly. Bike
Comments: Ok, once again a lesson in preparedness learned. First I forgot to hook up my bike computer with the goggles hoopla. :) doh! Then I also despised the tangerine Accelerade I had in my aero bottle. Way too thick. It might have been OK if I had diluted it 1:2 or so. Felt like a good effort. My left knee is still bothering me and as such, I think my right leg may have been a little unequally taxed but I felt like I made a good effort here. What would you do differently?: Probably be closer to a training peak. Due to some knee pains the most I had biked in the last two weeks was around 7 miles at the bike shop for some adjustments. Transition 2
Comments: I lost some time here picking out my bike and then putting my shoes on. No yankz this time, so I had to tie them up. What would you do differently?: Bring Yankz and have a vibrant sign or something. Eh. Run
Comments: Not a bad run. I feel like this is my weekest point. I know I can do better, it's just going to take getting over being so sticking sedentary after my ankle break and then ACL tear. Gave it a good effort over the finish line. What would you do differently?: Don't know, again, preparedness was low from not training over the past few weeks due to the knee again. I hope to really work on this the most and come back next year with a better showing. Post race
Warm down: Kissed my wife, thought about doing some cool down run, didn't. Picked the chunks of ice off my wet towel and then rubbed it all over my head. Sipped on some gatorade, considered some beer, but didn't feel like it. Started thinking about my next race! Met more of the ETT folks. Had a great time!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Definitely my run speed, and lack of goggles. But these are things I can fix. Event comments: Really well run race. I probably wood have given it a 5 except everyone bragged about how good the food was last year and I don't believe any one thought that it lived up to the hype this year. They ran out of hotdogs, pizza and bottled water before the first 1/2 of the racers were in. Last updated: 2008-05-21 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4, got my wife into the car with her two little dogs and headed off. Ate an apple and sipped on an Accelerade (that's all I could do, way too thick). Had a little trouble finding the place, but made it in time for PP thanks to some new friends.
Ran around trying to find some of the people I knew to bum some goggles from!!!! DOH! Not a bad warm-up for the legs, but leaves you a little irritated at yourself. Ah well. Chatted with a few new friends from ETT.
