  • Comments: Good raceā€¦.I will do it again next year. It is fairly close to home (only an hour drive) and was well organized so it made for a good day. Good food afterwards. They had hamburgers (ran out of hamburger buns by the time I made it over to the food after putting gear away and changing clothes) and hot dogs as well as soda, beer and water. Great volunteers on the course, which was closed for traffic which is always nice. I hate worrying about vehicles while trying to focus on the race as well. Great support staff on course.

  • Comments: Four States is great! Mike Riley is a wonderful race director and really does his best to make this a top-notch event. There is a reason this race has won best small triathlon 3 of the last 4 years, and he is it. Great venue, great volunteers, great post-race environment. If you're looking for a smaller, local sprint to do in this area, I'd definitely recommend this one.

  • Comments: This was a well ran race and even though my day started out bad and ended bad I was actually happy with the way it turned out. Not only did I beat my overall goal time that I was shooting for but after the terrible swim, I dug deep and didn't let it affect the rest of the race. For that I am happy. I have to learn to swim. Somebody help me please. The tri-club kicked butt. There were a ton of placers from East Texas Triathletes.

  • Comments: Really well run race. I probably wood have given it a 5 except everyone bragged about how good the food was last year and I don't believe any one thought that it lived up to the hype this year. They ran out of hotdogs, pizza and bottled water before the first 1/2 of the racers were in.

  • Comments: This race was awesome.. but I have a few things I have to mention. First off the race start was fairly un organized. There was ALMOST NO warning as to the start. Secondly the awards took WAYYYYY TOO long. Unnecessarily long. A picture was taken of EVERY single award given out w/ the winner and RD. Plus it seemed like he gave a biography of every person he knew. I finished at 9am and didnt leave till 12:30pm. Yeaaaa. Other than that the course was awesome. It was well organized. The post race was fantastic and everyone was VERY friendly. Well worth the drive to Texarkana.

  • Comments: The race was overall friendly. I like that. What I did not like was that it turned out to be filled with rabbits (you know those fast swimmers, fast runners, fast bikers). My girl friend was telling me that the announcer was saying that this person went to state for this thing and that person was top in class for that thing. I guess only those hard core triathletes would go out into the middle of the woods to do a race, but I think the rest of the slower people are missing out on a great event. I really enjoyed the way they had this set up. --Yes I got my ass whooped, but atleast I finished.

  • Comments: This was my first time here, and this would be about as high quality race as you can find for the small-time environment. Kudos to Mike Riley and all those involved. Only problem was with timing and birthdates, but that was out of his control. And they resolved the problem as efficiently as possible. This is a very fun race, and I'll most likely be back every year.

  • Comments: It was very easy to see how this race earned Top Small Triathlon for 2005 and 2006. The race packet, post-race festivities, and overall organization were on par (or better) with any large race I've been to. The small size of it made it much more personal than most races, and also made it much easier to keep order, it seemed. The volunteers were great and numerous. Aid stations were well-placed to be efficient. And the awards were by far the nicest plaques I've ever seen given out for a race. I will definitely be putting this race on my calendar for next year. But honestly, I hope they keep it small. I heard they're considering a 250 person cap for next year, and I'd almost prefer they keep it under 200. Great race... glad I did it!

  • Comments: Here's the kicker. I am a Clydesdale, and when I registered, the guys told me that all the Clydesdales had numbers in the 20's. The guy that got second passed me at the very end of the bike. He left T2 28 seconds ahead of me, and reached T2 22 seconds ahead of me. The thing is that he was the last guy to register, so they gave him number 150. When he passed me at the end of the bike, I saw him and noted his number was not in the 20's so I let him go - made no effort to keep up. As far as I knew, I was the first place Clydesdale at that point, because I had seen no others. Well, at the finish of the run, I was coming hard and he was looking back repeatedly. I thought he was looking past me, but he was making sure I wasn't catching him. Now, I ran as hard as I could, but I just know if I'd known the guy ahead of me was in my class, I would have chased him down a little more. Stupid race numbers. Oh yeah, the guy who got first place Clydesdales was second place overall. That is

  • Comments: This is indeed the best small tri in the region (as voted by the athletes last year). The swag was *very* good, useful stuff: a run hat; a nice shell with the race name on it; a nalgene bottle and a water bottle; great t-shirt; a couple of "golf" towels personalized with the race name and date. The organizers were excellent: they had their stuff together but were very mellow and friendly to paticipants and supporters alike. (Beer, burgers and pizza for everyone!) I will definietly do this race again next year,
