Run
Comments: Pushed it pretty hard on this portion; the effort was good though, because I figured I'd be able to recover significantly on the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much; overall, a pretty good effort. Maybe try to stay more focused in the Chi Running principles. Transition 1
Comments: I was pretty gassed at the end of the run, so this transition was a little slow. There was a roadblock on the road right outside of the transition area that I got caught up in, so that broke some momentum. Also, because my shoes were wet from the damp ground, I had a hard time getting my feet into the straps. What would you do differently?: Couldn't do too much differently. It was just the circumstances. Bike
Comments: I wiped out on the first right turn, about 1/4 mile into the course. I took a corner too fast and too tight on the wet surface, and just skidded across the road. I landed hard on my right hip and shoulder, and initially thought I'd broken my collarbone. I got up and pulled my bike to the shoulder to gather myself. A voulunteer who was directing vehicluar traffic kept asking if I needed medical assistance. I told him no. Meanwhile, one nice lady who was stopped in a car rolled down her window and asked if I needed some napkins. I guess she thought I was bleeding, but I wasn't. I told her no as well. By this point, it was mostly just my pride that was hurt, so I hurried onto my bike and pedalled away. What would you do differently?: Not wipe out. That wipe out probably cost me 3-4 minutes. Besides that, it was a really good ride. Transition 2
Comments: This was a quick transition, because I wanted to make up as much time as possible after my wipe out. Run
Comments: My shoulder was feeling a bit funky, so I didn't really push it as hard as I could have during this leg. Overall, I solid, comfortable run. What would you do differently?: Maybe pick up the pace a bit. Post race
Warm down: I immediately went to the onsite Physical Therapist to have her take a look at my shoulder. She put me through a battery of tests, and determined that I just have a sprain. I was told to RICE it, and monitor it for the next couple days. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wipe out and shoulder injury. Event comments: You could tell how the poor economy is affecting even spending on Duathlons, as the post course spread was sparse compared to races past. I didn't stick around for too long afterwards, and was on the road by 10:30. Last updated: 2008-05-22 12:00 AM
