Swim
Comments: Swim went well, better then I expected. What would you do differently?: maybe seed myself a little further up front and off to the side to try and get more open water. Transition 1
Comments: First time in Ironman it went well. What would you do differently?: Next time I think I will wear a Tri suit and have it under my wetsuit rather then changing into my jersey. Bike
Comments: Went way to fast the first lap, I did it in 2hrs 40 min. Last 40of the Bike my hamstring cramped badly and I had to get o fthe bike and strech it out, and then walk my bike for a bit. At this point I was really worried that I would not be able to finish. I even sat down for a minute ot two and talked myself into saying "screw this you are going to finish do NOT panic now". So I got back on and tied to spin easy. Had to push through the crap and on the last few hills I had to do it pretty much with one leg. But I made it to the finish and in just over 6 hrs, so I knew I had a big enough cushion to finish no matter what. What would you do differently?: pace myself better on the bike, and work on my nutritional plan, as I felt really ill the last 30k of the bike. If I had slowed down the first lap, I think I could have still finished the bike in 6hrs, but nothave cramped and been capable of running a bigger part of the Marathon. I think maybe I got to many calories. This will be a focus for me over the next year. Transition 2
Comments: Felt very ill at this point. Leg was still cramped a little but I was determined to get out on the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing it went well. Run
Comments: Mostly walked as I wanted to make sure I finished, I had lots of time, and I did not want to risk not finishing due to the hamstring. I did manage to run a few of the down hills. Did the math in my head and knew that I would make it under 14 hours, my orginal goal. Still ill the whole way. Tried everthing, coke, bannanas, pretzels, cookies, and then tried nothing but some water. Nothing seemed to help. What would you do differently?: Get eating plan down over the next year. Post race
Warm down: Got my medal, T shirt, and went to the recovery tent. Got a pop and some pizza. Met up with my wife and sister and we went to a resturant right by the finish line and had 2 big pints of beer while watching the other finishers. Wanted to be there when Crazypop finished as we both signed up for this thing together. Could not shake the sick feeling. Took almost 2 days to get rid of it. What limited your ability to perform faster: eating plan Event comments: Great first experiance. Will learn from mistakes and improve for IM Canada next year. Last updated: 2008-05-26 12:00 AM

Got up at 4am so I could eat a little. Got down some Yougert and Granola, and a bagel and cheese. To nervous to really eat. Nice to have the time to eat and get ready though. I did not want to feel rushed. Left for the race at 5am and got there in plenty of time to get marked, and warmed up.
Got into the water about 20min before the start to get used to the water temp. Then seeded myself about halway back.
