Pre-race routine:

This was my first triathlon so my pre-race routine was a little trial by fire...

I didnt like the fact that the transition area closed at 6:30 but it was about 8:30 until our heat finally went off....
Event warmup:

Given the high temps, I just stretched and tried to stay off my feet
Swim
  • 29m 10s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim felt pretty good but again being my first tri I didnt want to push it too hard. I never got a good draft off anyone but felt I did pretty good with my sighting.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have gone a little harder on the swim but I was pretty happy with this time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

I put socks on since I havent trained without them but overall I think this transition went well, it was just a pretty long run with the bike and I ran in my bike shoes as I havent yet practiced with my shoes already clipped in.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 8s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Biking is my weakest or should I say best area of improvement. I really need to get a tri bike as I have an old Trek Road bike that I put aerobars on but its not doing the trick and I really dont feel comfortable on it.
What would you do differently?:

Train more, get more time in the saddle, get new bike
Transition 2
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Went pretty well.
Run
  • 53m 49s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

This run kicked my butt. Going into this race I thought the run was my strongest leg as in my training I've been averaging around 7:15 min miles, even during Bricks.

However, I never got into a good groove. I had a GU on the bike just before the transition and it didnt sit well during the beginning of the run. The other problem was the heat, by the time I started runnin it was really hot out and I had no heat training so it killed me. It was really one of the hardest things I've ever done and I got discouraged but ultimately I did finish but was way slower than I was expecting.
Post race
Event comments:

Given this was my first triathlon, I was excited. Hopefully I will improve but the run really hurt me and my confidence. I think I might try a sprint next.
