Total Time = 1h 18m 24s
Overall Rank = 38/228
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/27
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30 and had a bowl of oatmeal. Got dressed and headed out for the race.
Event warmup:

Transition setup took longer than normal due to the way they were checking us in so actual warm up wasn't as long as I would have liked. Did a half mile light jog, did some stretching, then did about 100 meters in the lake prior to the race.
Swim
  • 09m 30s
  • 547 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim went OK, started out front and was able to maintain fairly well. Daryl was next to me, and kept running into me so I blew past him just after the first buoy. Overall I felt like it was a pretty good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Work on drafting, and spend more time in open water.
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

For some reason, they had us walking the bikes from the timing mats to the top of the hill before they were letting us mount. This was extremely difficult to do in cleats, which added an additional 15 or 20 seconds to my bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 35m 46s
  • 10.41 miles
  • 17.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Bummed out, I left the house without my Garmin, so I was just guessing as to weather or not I was pacing myself correctly. I really missed my cadence sensor.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to work on hills better, and spend more time doing bricks.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Run
  • 31m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

I cramped up immediately after leaving transition. Both calves were more concerned with siezing up than with running. Stopped to massage them and stretch, then continued. I must have stopped 3 or 4 times for about 20 or 30 seconds each time. Probably my best run on this course, but I was still not pleased with 10 minute miles.
What would you do differently?:

Run training. More bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

I didn't really do much accept wait for my other friends to cross the finish line. Some light stretching and then had a post race breakfast provided by the RD.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of training.

Event comments:

Looking forward to next year so that I can try and place in my age group. If I can perfect my run off the bike I will be able to do just that.
