Swim
Comments: Gave an aggresive swim time of 5:15, which was 15sec faster than my fastest 300m race time but I had been swimming more. I decided though I would rather give a fast time and be passed than deal with passing people though. Almost everyone in front of me jumped in feet first and then took off. I am always afraid my goggles will fall off or something so I sat on the deck and slipped in. Started off at a comfortable pace and decided to just stay there. I really need to learn to flip turn to make going under the ropes easier. I hit the first lane marker and it slowed me down. By the end of the secon length the guy behind me caught up and when I pushed off he decided he was going to cut me off. I really wish he would have just tapped my foot so I could have let him go. I just moved over slightly and then got behind him to draft as much as possible. Did not hang on long though. I did catch one other person and never got passed again. Apparently everyone else gave over zealous times.. Hoped out of the water and saw Dgille, DocShock and Jen in the stand. Took off to transition as quick as possible to get my legs going. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I probably could have swam faster but would not have been able to ride my bike. Transition 1
Comments: 23 OA, 2 clyde, 6 in AG Considering I had the 23 fastest T1 I can't complain. Went with simpicity. Googles off while running. Helmet and racebelt on and got on shoes while riding. I forgot rubberbands so had to be careful not to loose shoes so could not run hard leaving transition or hop on bike What would you do differently?: remember rubber bands Bike
Comments: Took off at a comfortable cadence and my goal was to really just average 20mph. From looking at last year this would have been a good bike split. Apparently, faster people showed up this year or the weather was better. I really just tried to concern myself with my race and not who was around me. I knew my run fitness was not great and after metroplex I wanted to be able to run the entire 5K. Did the first loop at a pretty good pace only was passed by 1 person and passed a couple. On the second loop I caught the guy who passed me and then started catching a bunch of people who were just started their 1st loop. As I hit the hills on Main Stree on my second loop a guy in front of me decided to ride with no hands and take a drink so I made sure to stay wide left. About the last mile I started to slow down a bit to make sure I would be able to run. What would you do differently?: Not much really. Probably could have ridden harder but then would have bonked on the run Transition 2
Comments: 39 OA, T2 Clyde, 8 AG Decent T2, only 20sec slower than the fastest. Again this probably has more to do with how slow I ran compared to the faster guys than what I do in transition. Basically off with helmet on with shoes and grab visor. What would you do differently?: Run faster I guess Run
Comments: Considering I had not run much the last few months and did no speed work I can't complain. I passed a few people leaving transition right away and pretty much stayed in that position until about .5 miles to the finish. At that point 4 or 5 people in the 60# range caught me but they were moving. HR definately high but I never had the urge to walk. I had a good kick at the end too. What would you do differently?: Not get injured before race and be able to run more. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with BTers for awards and then went for a 20mile ride with some of them after. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of running before race. Event comments: Race was good. I still have no idea why it took so long for everyone to start. I mean I was done for a good 20 minutes before the last person got out of the pool. I mean they can do IMKY in 40 minutes but over 1.5hrs for 400 people. Did not effect me I just felt bad for them. Bike/Run placements are disappointing in that I am now placing higher in swimming than bike/run. My first race ever I was 230/55/58 (out of 280) and this race I was 39/53/77 out of 383. Part of this is lack of running fitness leading up to race and the fact that I don't do alot of speed work for shorter rides. I just jump on my bike and go. Last updated: 2008-06-02 12:00 AM
