Pre-race routine:

Woke up EARLY. The race started at 6:00 am. Had my typical glass of OJ, and that's about it.

Comments:

Only walked at three stops when I needed gatorade and a gel. Other than that I kept moving along with a few sips of water and a head soak. I didn't know what to expect out of my body on this run since I really have only trained three weeks after coming off an Olympic Tri program. At mile 7, I realized if I ran close to an hour final 10k I would easily PR. So, I pushed it a bit from there. The last two miles were not my best, but I just enough in the tank to pose going across the finish and knock over five minutes off my PR.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. This was an inaugural event close to where I live, so I signed up just to support it. I think I got in some really good and ramped up run training in during the three weeks I had to prepare.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around, stretching, drank a few beers, had two muffins.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I won't complain about a PR.

Event comments:

The post race spread was sort of meager, but given the choice, I'd rather a great during the race organization. They definitely got it right. They had a contest that offered $1000 to the best "cheer section" on the course, so there was some great (and often hilarious) moral support. Plenty of drink stations with plenty of fluid. Lots of police presence. Great course layout (even with the hill at mile 11). Overall, a very enjoyable event, and this makes my second "legacy" I've started in the last seven months in my hometown.

Course: Very rolling. None of the hills were that bad, exept for a long, steep incline after mile 11. Gee thanks. Very smooth pavement and completely police protected.
