Pre-race routine:

Not the best pre-race set up. Was in Cherry Hill for a reunion of sorts until 2:30 in the morning; no dinner. Got home at 3:30 AM, ate a PB&J and went to bed for an hour. Got up, showered and shaved, and drove the race site. Ate some mini-cinnamon buns from Sheetz with an iced coffee on the way.
Once there, I set up my gear and went to the portapots.
Event warmup:

Not much; took advantage of the warm up for the water (79.5 degrees) just to acclimate. Water felt great, even without wetsuits.
Swim
  • 19m 36s
  • 830 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out a little slow, but as the wave moved on, I caught more people on the swim. Counting strokes and sighting every 5-6 strokes helped me keep my head.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps push myself a little more. Not my fastest pace, but felt good, overall.
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

A little trouble getting my cap off. Might try to put the goggles on under the cap next time.
Bike
  • 47m 42s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 16.10 mile/hr
Comments:

An uphill right out of the park. But after that the hills on the course where more or less rolling. Had some good speed going down.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Maybe more T.I.T.S., but thats always the case.
Transition 2
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

Spent too much time finding a spot for the helmet. A little trouble getting the socks on, but turned out to be very worthwhile.
What would you do differently?:

Pre-roll the socks for ease of putting on. Designate a spot for the helmet at set-up.
Run
  • 33m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Better pace than the last race, due largely to the use of socks. First half was much more solid than the second. This is where I lost the most ground - only passed one person overall in the last half mile (but I did maintain that lead).
What would you do differently?:

Train more with the run. Clearly my weak area now. Swimming has moved waaaaay ahead, with the mileage this year. Maybe some more brick training too, but I think it's just getting the base down.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough run training.

Event comments:

I would do this race again. Good spread, although I didn't eat too much. Later GI issues may have been why I wasn't too hungry at the time. Maybe get a better nights sleep!
