Pre-race routine:

First triathlon ever. Got there early. Set up transition similar to video on this site. Watched big storm tear everything down. Went and reset up transition. Race started.
Event warmup:

All of one lap in the pool, thanks to storm.
Swim
  • 06m 18s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Faster than I expected - partially because I realized many faster swimmers had sandbagged their estimated time and I was afraid of getting run over. In hindsight I used too much energy here and didn't focus on good form.
What would you do differently?:

Not worry about others. Focus on form and saving more of my legs for the bike portion.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

With the storm, the chip timing system broke so they had to go manual. That combined T1 with bike and T2 with run times. T1 time is my Garmin ride time data subtracted from the official race results T1+bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. For a beginner I was pleased.
Bike
  • 40m 25s
  • 10.6 miles
  • 15.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was disappointing. I expected to place top 1/3 of field here. Course was short 10 miles, gently rolling (except for two tough hills in the last 3 miles). Instead while on pace, I got calf cramps on a gentle climb about 3-4 miles in. Had to back way off and finished about 2mph slower than expected. I blame the hard swim, lack of warmup and possibly a bit of dehydration.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I don't tense legs during swim. Warm up better.
Transition 2
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Didn't really push this transition as my "race" was over. Due to upper hamstring tendonitis, my plan was to gently jog/walk the run portion.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 54s
  • 2.36 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Wasn't a race for me. If healthy, this would have been my best leg. Not healthy I just planned to back it down and finish. Gave it an "average" because I kept my ego in check and stuck to my injury plan.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

On the bike, an error in either the swim or in hydration. Running, an injury.

Event comments:

Was good for a first tri. Now to heal up and do one healthy
