Total Time = 1h 29m 58s
Overall Rank = 145/344
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/31
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5 am for coffee and egg and sausage sandwich on whole wheat. Lots of water. Hydrated heavily starting three days out.
Event warmup:

Set up transition. Walked to lake to check out swim. Walked from transition to rest rooms several times. Dipped in lake with 25 yard swim in and out to warm up.
Swim
  • 13m 6s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 59s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

I would position myself at the very front of the pack. I got a little intimidated by all the big men surrounding me. I should be more agressive at the start.
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Decided to go without socks this time. Much faster. Have to get more focused on the in and out.
What would you do differently?:

I don't plan to wear a seperate shirt next time. I'm going to try a tri-suit.
Bike
  • 47m 29s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 15.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Wore my camelback which really helps. Stayed well hydrated and was ready for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe more training on the bike. I'm shooting for three hours a week on the saddle. By far my weakest leg.
Transition 2
  • 53m 10s
Comments:

Didn't think about taking the shoes off and riding with feet on top of shoes. Guess I need to read some of the transition advice, eh? I used yankz for the first time. No socks. Helped the transition, but made for a noisy run. I kept squeeking in my shoes because I was so sweaty (yuck!)
What would you do differently?:

Read more advice about transition....but I was happy with this time.
Run
  • 26m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow! I was absolutely dying. Walked twice (which I hardly ever do). It was hot and there were no water stations. However, this has to be the fastest 5k I have ever run, hands down. I was very surprised and happy to see my split!
What would you do differently?:

Not walk, no matter what. Just jog it out if I have to. Maybe do some speed workouts. I've never tried to run faster. I'm more of a long distance kindof gal. Guess I should give it a try.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked in a shaded area until I brought my heart rate down to 65%. Drank a lot of water and gatorade. Talked to a few felow racers. Ate some oranges. Hit the road to go home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat during the race was awful. I also think that more training on the bike and run speed wise would help. Lastly, more strategy on the swim. I should be faster than this.

Event comments:

There should have been milage signs on bike and run course. There should have been water stations on the run. I would not have raced if I had know that the bike course was unpaved in portions. Many racers fell and/or got flats. I was lucky. However, I'd do the race again because of proximity and course.

Age Group: 1/31
Overall: 76/344
Performance: Average
Started men and women together. I got stuck behind a lot of big, slow men. One even had a "flotation device". I could have finished sub 10 minutes easy had I not been boxed in. Swim/wave instructions were poor. Many swimmers missed the second buoy and had to go BACK INTO THE WATER to get around it. Not cool! Luckily I saw them and figured it out before it cost me too much time.
Suit: none
Course: Running start (with men!) to water. Out very short distance to buoy, then turn left to swim parallel to shore line. Easy swim. Out of water for LONG run back to transition up very steep hill.

Course: In and out. There was a portion of the course that was underconstruction. We were under a no racing order as the road was unpaved crushed gravel for this portion. Otherwise, nice course, nicely run. There was just one real up and down hill. Otherwise rolling and fast.
