Swim
  • 49m 71s
  • 2100 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

I kept running into troubles. Not used to swimming in OWS and my wetsuit. First time for both this year. I started out and kept over running into people. There was alot of fighting and ulimately I think it slowed me down. I just could not get into my rythem. Drafting was bad. whenever I would get behind someone I swear they would stop and look. My googles were foggy and it was hard to see.

There was a section I acutally had to get up and run because the water was so shallow I could not even stroke. it was about 2 feet deep in that section.
What would you do differently?:

wear the wetsuit a couple of times to get used to it.
Transition 1
  • 05m 2s
Comments:

I wore my tri suit so I did not have to put on bike shorts. I think I went pretty face espically since I have not done a transistion since August.
What would you do differently?:

I should practice more to get my order down but otherwise I went pretty fast. I bet it was a new HIM - T1 pr
Bike

Comments:

I did the first half pretty hard. I was on a HIM bike split PR even with the wind. About mile 17 I got my first race flat. I started shouting in german. Lucky for me the sag vehical came by and changed the tire for me. Talk about lucky. About mile 30 is when the rains first hit. It came down and came down hard. The roads became fairly dangerous. instead of flying down bike hills I went down most of them breaking the whole way. I decided to do this when I saw the cars splashing waters all over the place. I did not want to hit the bottom of the hill, hit something or have the bike slip out from under me. Climbing was alot tougher since I started at a slow speed and had to climb the whole will. I was even blown off my bike right before the last aid station. I also have to dodge a fallen tree. Lucky for me it was laying on the side of the road and barely in the street.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really. I went at a pace I felt was good for me to get off the bike without blowing up. You can not control the weather. I am very Very glad that I did not use the tri bike. I had handling issues with the roadie as it was.
Transition 2
  • 04m 29s
Comments:

I moved quickly. I had all my stuff there since I did a good job securing my area. I did have to take some time and hunt for my wetsuit. It got moved or something. I did take my time and said hi to Coredump because he finished. I bet I Pred at t2 for a him
What would you do differently?:

Maybe bring an extra pair of socks and put my shoes in a bag.
Run
  • 2h 54m 42s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Well the run was tough, My Knee was hurting and I blistered bad from the water in my shoes. I ran into tupuppy he was manning a water stop. I beat like 5 - 6 people on the bike but I was the last to move to the run course. I was excited to see all the water stop were still there. My goal was to run around a 3 hour half marathon which I think I did.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really. I did the best I could and moved the fastest in my condition.
Post race
Warm down:

ate some food

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather was the biggest thing. That and trying not to over use my knee. I went slow on purpose but I was still on a PR pace so I figured that was good.

Event comments:

Well the volinteers were GREAT. Its amazing that people raced in those conditions but more amazing the volitneers were still there. Those who stayed really should be commended. They did a good job and even though I was at the tail end I really felt there were looking after me.

I think they seem to handle the race itself very well.

I got lots of really good food this year. I was very excited about that.

The only complaint was I have no times. They pulled the finish line mat before I got there. Funny I finished this year about 23 minutes after and they had it out there. Ironicly that was the only part of the finish line that I saw torn down because of that I have no times at all for the race beyond what I was able to capture. They said last year they have no time limit expect on the swim and if that changed I have no idea where they ever mentioned it.

I Pred by atleast 10 minutes over my spirit of racine him time. It is probably my last year doing the Rockman. Too much money for what you get, and I always return home happy for finishing but frustrated at the same time.

After comparing my results from last year I did not change much. Swim was about 25 seconds slower. bike was 46 seconds slower. Time I really made up was in t1 which was 6:30 faster and t2 which was 3:00 mins faster. I was about 13:30 faster on the run. It actually makes me feel better because the weather was alot worse on the bike this year. my second half of the bike I took it slow so I did not get crash. Plus I had alot more energy on the run being able to move about 1 min/mile faster. I think if It was not for the rain I would have sub 8 for sure.
