  • Comments: The weather played a bit of havoc with volunteer turnout. Since it was raining, some of the vols did not show up on race day for their positions. To the RD's credit he was able to scramble pretty well and cover any gaps in volunteers by moving people around on the fly. There were a couple intersections on the bike that didn't have vols this year that had them last 2 years, and 1 of the run aid stations was unmanned when I came through ( admittedly pretty close to the front ), though about 1 minute later the RD passed me in his car going the other way to deliver volunteers to the aid location, so it was manned after that. There were cups and heed and gels out, just nobody to hand them to you. Not the end of the world by any stretch. All the busy/trafficked intersections had a police presence directing/stopping the cars, so that was solid again. Overall, this is a great race. It's small enough that it's not packed wall to wall with people, but large enough that there's some

  • Comments: No mile markers anywhere on the bike or run course. No medal at the end. They already took the finishers chute down and their was still a runner on he course. Parking was a half-mile away. Chris McDonald did race which was cool. They have to make some big changes if I to come back again. I had a free entry to this race so I did not mind that much, but others I heard were not happy.

  • Comments: This is the second year for Rockman ( both for the race, and for me ). The day was an RD's nightmare, with the weather and storms blowing through. Everything that was in the RD's control was well run. The race started on time ( a pet peeve of mine when they don't ). Transition area is well laid out. The course is challenging, especially on the run, but we don't do this because it's easy. There were a lot volunteers who braved the elements to keep the race going. I made sure to say thank you to every one of them that I saw on the run course. They were wet and cold, but they had smiles on, and kept us fed and hydrated. I plan to be back for the 3rd running of the race next year, and will see what I can do to take a chunk out of my 4:59 PR on this course. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Though short of a tornado actually hitting transition, I don't see how it could possibly be any worse. :)

  • Comments: Well the volinteers were GREAT. Its amazing that people raced in those conditions but more amazing the volitneers were still there. Those who stayed really should be commended. They did a good job and even though I was at the tail end I really felt there were looking after me. I think they seem to handle the race itself very well. I got lots of really good food this year. I was very excited about that. The only complaint was I have no times. They pulled the finish line mat before I got there. Funny I finished this year about 23 minutes after and they had it out there. Ironicly that was the only part of the finish line that I saw torn down because of that I have no times at all for the race beyond what I was able to capture. They said last year they have no time limit expect on the swim and if that changed I have no idea where they ever mentioned it. I Pred by atleast 10 minutes over my spirit of racine him time. It is probably my last year doing the Rockman. Too much

  • Comments: Nice race. I only wish they had a bit more organized post event stuff. Other than that, it was pretty darn good race. Thanks to all the volunteers for bearing the horrendous weather.

  • Comments: im happy, august 2007 I did a half-ironman in 6hr54 minutes, today 6h13, and this was a much harder run course, so im getting better. As far as the race itself, these people are cheap, last year they gave out a finishers sticker, this year a lousy tee-shirt, I paid $144.

  • Comments: For me, for my first 1/2 ironman (and only 4th Triathlon), a super effort with super results, particularly considering the cramping and ultra conservative swim start. I'll be back next year and plan to be faster. Course was super. Challenging but fun. Organization was uneven. Pre race organization could have been better. Had to pick up chips after regiatering, morning of race, no marking so you had to wear your run number on the bike, Swim went off on time, but very disorganized. Bike aid stations great, but intersections need to be manned. No mile markers on run course, more and better stocked aid stations on run course would have been nice. Overall a good effort for a first year race and I am sure it will get better over time.

  • Comments: This was an excellent race for the cost. I could not have expected better. I would have liked a t-shirt but Chip would have had to charge more for it.

  • Comments: This was a PR for me I'll take that on a tough running course. Need some work on the swim and transitions. Will work on my fueling as well before Racine. Overall great race. Love the location at Rock Cut State Park.

  • Comments: I did not like how they did not have a finisher medal but a finisher sticker. I like how they had alot of water boittles on the course. I kept a few for myself. I also did not like how they pack up the water stations before I got there. They were pulling away as I got there. Would been better if they would have stopped and gave me some water and then kept going.

  • Comments: This race was such a learning experience that can and will be applied to further race, to life, family and business goals. A small part of what kept me going on the run course was that I had a co-worker who said I would not finish. I called him “Half a Dirt bag.” Another co-worker asked, “Why only Half a dirt bag?” “Because I’ll upgrade him to FULL dirt bag after I finish.” The day before the race I wrote on my forearm the total swim yards, bike and run time I had put in for this race. By the run course it was nearly gone but I knew the numbers that were there. I would look was barely readable when I was having moments of doubt…and keep doing. Although my wife was home with the kids and not feeling well, they WERE there at the finish line with me. I know she thought I was nuts while training for this AND at the same time she understood and supported me…even kicking me out of the house a few times to get in training. Jenn, you WERE there with me. I don’t know when I’ll

  • Comments: Could have used another aid station or two on the run, but that's just nitpicking. :) A great race, and definitely one I want to do again. It's a challenging course, but not so difficult that it's unbearable. A good showing by BT'ers and Salt Creek Tri Club at the race!
