Total Time = 1h 14m 22s
Overall Rank = 124/1408
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 11/78
Pre-race routine:

Woke up late and had a half of a bagel with peanut butter, wasn't very hungry that early.
Event warmup:

As soon as I walked into the transition area the MC announced that we had 9 minutes to clear the area. Set my stuff up on the quickly dwindling space on the rack, used the honey bucket and made my way to the water. No warmup at all.
Swim
  • 11h 58m
  • 880 yards
  • 1h 21m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Confused about course, buoys were all over the place, no map available to swimmers. Typical OWS, got to grab ankles, kick, punch and scratch. My previous OW experience really helped. Have been out of the water so long that I had a hard time pacing myself. Went out way too slow, stroke was too frantic and inefficient. Swam by myself most of the time.
What would you do differently?:

Concentrate on stroke mechanics, go faster.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

My shirt got rolled up and stuck while putting it on. Took me at least 20 seconds to get it straightened out. Bike was too far down the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Get a better spot on the rack and a different shirt.
Bike
  • 36m 52s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Easily my weakest link. My training consisted of my daily 2.5 mile commute. Held back a bit since this was my first triathlon and I wasn't sure how much to save for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Give more effort.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Got caught up with some swimmers coming out of the water and couldn't find the run start.
What would you do differently?:

Check out the exits before the race starts.
Run
  • 22m 14s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt ok for the first mile. Then my lumbar area really tightened up and made running unpleasant. My legs felt fine and I could have run much faster if I could have ignored my back tightness. The hill really took a lot out of me, but I still had a lot left when the finish line appeared in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster, don't hold back so much.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first tri, so was unsure as to how much effort to give on each leg. I really didn't want to crap out on the first mile of the run, so erred on the side of safety. Now at least I have a point of reference to go by.

Event comments:

Good race for my first time. Could have gone a lot faster, but at least now I know what it feels like.
