Swim
Comments: Few bumps, but nothing major. Had one girl who totally started panicking in the water. Thought she was going to grab me and take me down with her, but she kept going. I felt like I was swimming as good as I could under the circumstances. I'm not the strongest of swimmers and I didn't really feel relaxed the entire swim. It was a little disconcerning to see some people in waves behind me blow by like I was standing still, (I saw two different cap colors pass me) but I held my own pretty well out there. I was a little surprised to see my time. Don't think I've ever swam this fast. What would you do differently?: Spend more FOCUSED time in the water. Get that form perfected. Transition 1
Comments: Lots of room for improvement here. Even though I went through things in my head last night, I didn't feel like I had a great handle on things. I had everything I needed, I just wasn't very efficient getting myself ready to go out on the bike. What would you do differently?: Practice. Bike
Comments: Bike leg went really well for me. Goal was to average above 15 and I hit 16 for the first time ever! :) Got passed alot early on, but the last few miles, did some passing of my own. One lady I passed, passed me back on the run and commented how strong I looked on the bike. Heart rate was higher than it should have been. What would you do differently?: Try to calm down and get the heart rate down a little. This was as good as I was able to give and I'm happy with my performance. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went smoothly. Gloves came off easily. Usually I struggle with them. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: When I left transition, my calves felt like they had lead in them. Took almost a mile before they started feeling better. Walked the first drink station and decided walking felt too good, so I ran through the rest of them. Never felt very relaxed or comfortable on the run although the second half felt better than the first. I got really hot out there - at water stations, I'd drink a few sips and dump the rest over my head. Need to learn to drink better on the run. Also need to drink more on the bike to better prepare for the run. Doesn't make a big difference now, but longer races, it's going to be an issue. What would you do differently?: Run more. Maybe more bricks? Post race
Warm down: Drank lots of water - some Heed. I was pretty overheated. Ate a banana. Stretched. Took my bike and stuff to the car, got the camera, headed back over for some pasta and sat down to wait for Chris to cross the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm 46 years old and I spent the first 40 of those years sitting on my butt doing nothing active and smoking too many cigarettes. I think I performed as well as I'm able to at this point in life. I'm thrilled to be where I am! No regrets for this race. :) Event comments: This was my first triathlon since August, 2006. I was injured all last season and I was just thrilled to be back out there. I felt great out there today! Last updated: 2008-06-10 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30. Had some coffe and my english muffin, nat. pb, and banana and headed out the door. Arrived at race site about 6:15. Chrisrunsz26 was one of the first people I saw. We chatted briefly, but I was anxious to get checked in since last night when I checked the race website, I was not listed in the particpant's list. This was a transfer from another race, and when I gave them my receipt from Active.com, I had no problem, but I'm not positive my official results will ever be official. We'll see. Got transition set up and spent the rest of the time wandering around transition and talking with Chris. Nice to have something other than the race to think about.
Little bit of shoulder stretching and waded in the water and did a short swim. Not much.
