Swim
Comments: I already had a beef about the wave starts (which some of you may have read on the forum). I and my two buddies were in the 3rd wave with half of the 40-44 women, the other half went in the first wave and had clear swimming and biking. The swim was fine until about 1/4 the way through when I caught up to the stragglers from the earlier wave. I have to say that swimming up on someone doing sidestroke is about one of the more dangerous situations I have been in in a tri and most of the rest of the swim was zig-zagging around slow swimmers and dodging side kicks. That said I was happy with my swim. What would you do differently?: Not sure except maybe try to convince the RD not to split an age group or to at least put the waves back to back. Transition 1
Comments: A bit of a run to T1 but not too bad except as I ran my wetsuit was slipping down past my hips and I was thinking that if I didn;t speed up I'd be doing a penguin waddle pretty soon. I had a nice slot right on the end of the rack nearest the exit. Can't remember if it was raining at his point or not. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Rain made this a little sketchy but I had the new Conti tires on which seem to track like a slot car and I tried to stay off any paint or road markings. No grip problems and rain was great for me. A little clumping of riders but I spent the loop working to get passed riders so that I would be clear on the downhills and corners. What would you do differently?: Not much. Felt a little tired for the last 10 minutes or so but nothing that training couldn't fix. Would've liked to have broken 20 mph avg. Transition 2
Comments: One of my friends caught me at the end of the bike but the feet on top of shoes got me past her going into TA. This was a good TA for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Counting the summer series this was the 16th time in 18 months that I have raced a tri here and run this course! I never got into my rhythm and could feel the cold/sore throat on this section more than before - ug! Passed quite a few and got passed by a couple. What would you do differently?: Nothing except lose the cold. Post race
Warm down: WT has showers! Nice! Always feels good to get clean after a race. Stretched, drank. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cold/sore throat would be my guess but was happy with race in spite of that. Event comments: if they would not split age groups between waves I'd be well happy. might be time to have a first wave for those racing for the overall so that those who have a shot to place overall, all race on a level playing field. The volunteers needed a big hand for not only volunteering but doing it in the rain. If they could just reassign the rude, loud guy from the TA who barked out orders like a Sgt Major to new recruits it would be good. Well organised event. Nice tees. I love to race at WT. This race also tends to get slightly bigger crowds as every racer brings friends/spouses/kids. It's also USAT-sanctioned and gives 5 time splits. Last updated: 2008-06-17 12:00 AM

Rode a couple laps of the new longer bike course 1 week prior to figure out gearing and where I could rip through the downhill. Then got a nasty cold and sore throat and wondered how that would all play out. Halls lozenges are my new energy food! Arranged to drive to this race with 2 other gals from my tri club which made it a lot more fun and a good way to wind down the season. Thelma, thelma and louise left in the Denali at 5:30am.
We arrived early and scored a princess parking spot right next to the TA and the portajohns. Set up, got marked and checked out the swim in and the start and finish of the run course (jogged). 15 mins to go - wetsuit on and in for a wee swim. Stretched whicle waiting for waves to go.
