Swim
Comments: Shallow swim! Used my long legs to run out the first 50 feet and was the first one to dive in and start swimming. People, swimming is faster and easier than running in waist deep water! I was touching bottom for the first 50 yards or so but stuck to my plan of swimming rather than running. Breathing was stressed until about 3/4 of the way through--warm up would have helped me get into a rythm sooner. Spotting and navigation were good though. What would you do differently?: Warm up. Transition 1
Comments: Suck! In spite of my reckless disreguard for the well being of my wet suit, I couldn't get it off of my left ankle. Then took forever getting my socks on. Then got held up by yahoos who stop entirely to mount their bike--there was plenty of room at the mount line, should have made sure I wasn't behind anyone so I could do my running mount. What would you do differently?: More body glide on the ankles and lower leg of wet suit, make sure I have a clear path for running mount of bike, wait to put socks on after bike. Bike
Comments: Legs felt weak. Not limited by cardio, but just didn't feel fresh in spite of a few weeks of "rest." What would you do differently?: Train more! Transition 2
Comments: No big deal here. Could have hurried a bit more but I'm satisfied with this one. Run
Comments: Needed to pee coming out of T2, and saw what I believed to be park restrooms about 500 feet after I started running, so I went in. Come to find it is a shower but no restroom, so guess what I did? Yup, much better. I think I drank too much on the bike (one full aero bottle of Heed). From there, felt okay but not great. Again, limiting factor was not cardio, but leg strength. Based on spending over a minute peeing and my weak legs on a course with hills, I think the course was shorter than it was supposed to be. What would you do differently?: Run more! Post race
Warm down: Walk, Gatorade, water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: Good: Venue and run course. Post race meal of pasta with bread sticks and fruit was better than most. Bad: Nobody was checking people on the way out of transition post race. Anyone could waltz in there and steal as many bikes as they want. No course maps--a print out in the goodie bags would have been appreciated. Last updated: 2008-06-20 12:00 AM

Up at 5:10, coffee (which I found out the next morning was decaf), a couple mini bagels with PB, gatorade. Pack the transition bag and head down to transition. Pit stop for last minute weight reduction before putting on the wet suit.
Nada. Skipping the warmup was (as always) a mistake that I paid for on the swim.
